Binding with light wear; joints expertly strengthened with tissue; mildly foxed; early owner's name to front board and title-page; Very Good. First American edition in its as-issued binding for Ganilh's Systèmes d'économie politique (1809) translated from the French by D. Boileau. (Cohen) Ganilh's work is noteworthy for presenting "perhaps the most elaborate analysis of free verse slave labour before British emancipation." (Drescher)… Read More

Gardiner scripted the 1926 film The Great Gatsby, adapted from the quintessential Jazz Age novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald. New York is now considered a lost film. It tells the love story of a "Jazz King" and a banker's daughter in New York City. Ricardo Cortez, Lois Wilson, and Estelle Taylor headlined.¹ Cortez, who starred in a 1931 film version of The Maltese Falcon, came from a Jewish background, but was recast by Hollywood as a "Latin Lover" in the mode of Rudolph Valentino. The film also starred a young William Powell who began his career at Paramount. This photoplay presents nine half tone illustrations from the movie. Note 1.
