Folds; some ink bleed-through; very good. 1837 legal summons addressed to the Sheriff of Hinds County, Mississippi, William C. Demoss. The sheriff is hereby directed to summon Maxfield Anderson, William Anderson Sr., and William Anderson Jr. to give evidence in the case of David Anderson, plaintiff, against Frederick Miller, defendant. The Andersons were summoned to appear on the third day of the October 1837 term by Judge George Coalter, Judge of the Seventh Judicial District. The summons is signed by court clerk, G.E. Beauchamp. Illustrated exhibition catalog of landscape paintings by Joseph Jefferson, celebrated American stage and early silent film actor best known for his portrayal of the character "Rip Van Winkle" based on the short story of the same name by Washington Irving. The text includes press notices of Jefferson as an actor-painter from Boston, New York, and Washington, D.C. newspapers.

Exhibition catalog of marble and bronze sculptures by French abstract sculptor Antoine Poncet (b. 1928). Poncet was an assistant to German-French sculptor and painter Jean Arp (1886-1966), whose brief remarks on Poncet are included in the catalog. The Weintraub Gallery exhibition was Poncet's second one-person show in America.

Gardiner scripted the 1926 film The Great Gatsby, adapted from the quintessential Jazz Age novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald. New York is now considered a lost film. It tells the love story of a "Jazz King" and a banker's daughter in New York City. Ricardo Cortez, Lois Wilson, and Estelle Taylor headlined.¹ Cortez, who starred in a 1931 film version of The Maltese Falcon, came from a Jewish background, but was recast by Hollywood as a "Latin Lover" in the mode of Rudolph Valentino. Libretto or song lyrics for a religious music concert held at the church of Rev. Dr. Joseph Strong in Norwich, Connecticut, likely in 1837. The concert featured a choir under the direction of Samuel Chandler (assisted by Isaac Packard Cole) accompanied by organist "Mr. Gear, (late from St. Paul's Cathedral, London)." This rare libretto features 20 solo, duo, and choral song, performances by such composers as Mozart, Handel, and Hayden. Songs include "Old Hundred," "Marseilles Hymn," "Vesper Hymn (Russian Air)," and two selections from Handel's Messiah: "But thou didst not leave his soul in hell" and "I know that my Redeemer liveth." This is a rich and complex composite photograph from 1908, captioned with the words "Zur Erinnerung an Meine Dienstzeit," which translates to "In remembrance of my service time." It was created for the 10th Company, 8th Württemberg Infantry Regiment, Grand Duke Frederick of Baden's Regiment-possibly light infantry as in "Jäger infanterieregiment." This regiment was based in Strasbourg in Alsace-Lorraine and served within the Imperial German Army. Juvenile biography of Mary McLeod Bethune (1875-1955), educator, organizer of African American women, and civil rights activist. "This is the challenging and inspired true story of a little girl who was determined to learn to read, and who went on to become a teacher, the founder of a college, an adviser to statesmen, and a great humanitarian." In 1904 in Daytona, Florida, Bethune founded the Daytona Normal and Industrial Institute for Training Negro Girls. The school has since evolved into Bethune-Cookman University, an historically Black university (HBCU).
