Du Caire à Philae, Décembre 1898 A Bord du Cheik Fadl.97 heliotype photographs, each printed on a separate sheet with printed captions and collected in a cloth-bound portfolio. Most sheets are light card measuring 6 x 9 inches, but about 15% are on plain paper measuring 6 x 8. A few are chipped at the edges, but no images are affected.Photographic record of a cruise in December 1898 to inspect the facilities of the Société Général des Sucreries et de la Raffinage d'Egypt, the major force in Egypt's substantial sugar industry. Though relatively small in format, these photos are detailed and evocative. Lots of great views of the Nile, Pharaonic monuments, growing and processing cane, with one picture of imprisoned Sudanese Mahdists working in a chain gang.
