Richard Chopping, illustrator of the striking dust-jacket, would soon leap to fame, producing the memorable artwork for Ian Fleming's James Bond series. This copy is from the comprehensive archive assembled by Jon Gilbert (pencil signature within). Title page illustration in two colours (red and black) Slight toning to edges of textblock with some spotting to top edge of textblock, preliminary matter pages breaking away from spine, rolling to bottom of spine, very slight bumping to edges, some soiling to dust-wrapper spine, bumping to edges of dust-wrapper. Near fine. The comic novel, Love on a Branch Line, is Hagfield's debut novel following the story of a British Civil Servant and his search for self identity and love.

Following a map drawn 300 years ago by a dying man, three adventurers set out in search of the legendary riches of King Solomon's diamond mines. On their journey they have to cross deserts, mountains and inhabitants that kill strangers. Will they make the journey and become the richest men on Earth?

Very faint owner-name beneath jacket, some edge-spotting. Cloth is clean and fresh. A fine copy. Historical fantasy of Egypt and Babylon from the popular Victiorian/Edwardian adventure novelist, a master of weird invention and spellbinding narrative. Whatmore F54.

Octavo (19 x 13cm), pp.316, with five colour plate illustrations by Wal Paget. Publisher's mid-green cloth, with gilt and black titles and a colour illustration laid down to upper. Contents clean, some edge toning, cloth lightly handled and rubbed. Very good indeed. An elusive Haggard, which was not issued in the US, this novel is an historical fiction; a medieval adventure set around 'Blossholme Abbey', packed with charging horses, Knights, noblemen and fair maidens.

Publisher's dark navy cloth with gilt titles to spine and upper, with bevelled edges and black-coated endpapers. With 20 illustrations by Wilson including a frontispiece. Some light spotting throughout, toning to edges of textblock, rolling to spine causing some wearing to cloth, bumping to edges. Very good. The story of a shop girl with a past... Leaving his usual menu of adventure to one side, Haggard serves up a slower more Hardy-esque novel about love and illegitimacy. Serialised in the Pall Mall Magazine from September 1894.

Fairly light wear and a few marks to cloth; spine a bit sunned. Very good. A classic fantasy adventure about the Sultan Salah ad-Din's famous twelfth century campaign against the crusader states, which resulted in a devastating Muslim victory at the Battle of Hattin in 1187. A lovely clean copy internally, with some toning to edges and light spotting to endpapers. Spine sunned, with rubbing to head and tail, and heavy dulling to gilt. Corners bumped. Very good. A case of three men on a boat (to say nothing of the dog) quickly turns into a fantasy adventure on a lost desert island which harbours a superstitious population, and a secret volcano cave containing two humans from a past Great Age in suspended animation. When they are awoken a love story is added to the mix and, disapproving of the raging Great War in Europe, one of them attempts to destroy half the world in order to save the rest.

Some spotting, owner's surname to f.e.p., jacket is near fine. The rear panel carries reviews for the author's previous thriller, likened to James Bond; "the tension... is something quite beyond poor 007".
