Later, he enrolled in the Department of Engineering at Tokyo Photography University (now Tokyo Polytechnic University). Due to campus conflicts, he couldn't learn photographic techniques and transferred to Tokyo Sogo Photography School. During the closure of the school, he started photographing the islands of Okinawa. In 1985, he co-founded the photography journal "Bifu" with Tatsuhiko Kano and Mao Ishikawa.
