Bibliographer's copy, lightly used. Near fine. An unusual item of Bondiana. This is a serious critical study of the subject which was issued simultaneously in softcovers. The hardback first is truly scarce in fine condition, many of them having been taken into the library system for academic use. This copy is from the James Bond collection assembled by Jon Gilbert, with his pencilled ownership. His comprehensive guide to the works of Ian Fleming (2012) won the 16th Breslauer Prize for bibliography. Gilbert, p.611, 'Further Reading'.

Includes a profile of Ian Fleming (p.7), working in Jamaica on his eleventh James Bond thriller 'On Her Majesty's Secret Service', while filming was underway for 'Dr. No', just along the beach. An advert for his latest thriller 'The Spy Who Loved Me' appears on the opposite page. Upon Fleming's death in 1964 many articles and obituaries were published, but earlier profiles of the author are rather less common. Not in Gilbert. Ex-James Pickard, catalogue November 2012 (the bibliography was published in October).
