Tales of the Torres Strait islands. Inscribed, dated (September 1933) and signed by the author 'To Colin Simpson with sincere regards'. He is one of the people thanked in the author's prefatory note for 'the photographs in this book' - presumably the author Colin Simpson (1908-1983). The pencilling on one photograph, the endpaper map and one blank page are probably by him. The Idriess bibliography by Feain and Aroney records a print run of only 2000 copies.

An article in the 'South Australian Chronicle' for 8 June 1889 describes the circumstances of the presentation of the address, and describe the original in detail. 'The address is the work of Mr. Joyner, and is one of his most artistic productions ... The words and the signatures, which number 105, being those of most of the leading employés, are situated in the centre, while all around are well executed paintings of a number of the mills belonging to the firm, taken from photographs. Colour-pictorial title-wrappers (repeated at page 12), with the two parts fastened together with a red, white and blue ribbon; outer pages marked; overall in excellent condition. The illustrations depict the Thanksgiving Service at the War Memorial and the Victory March (both full-page), and six scenes from the Council Meeting and the Victory Dinner (spread over two pages).

Plate sizes are 100 × 150 mm (three), and 75 × 105 mm or the reverse (eight); all are captioned in ink (eight on the verso of the mount, three on the photograph itself). All depict scenes of rural life, most of them identifying Serajgunge in East Bengal. Images include 'Native fisherman', 'Native cobbler at work', 'Hindu holy man with his disciple', 'Wayside umbrella mender', scenes of boat-building and jute preparation, and one captioned 'The creature making his creator! (Idol making)'. Apart from a small light stain to one mount, they are all in fine condition. [11 items].
