London: Richard Bentley, 1870. 12mo, xiv 468pp. Three quarter navy leather with navy cloth and spine stamped in gilt; a.e.g. Marbled endpapers; 12 b&w plates with tissue guards and decorative red border on all pages of text. Edges a bit worn, especially to beveling on spine, outer edges of fixed endpapers discolored where they touch the leather binding, else internally a surprisingly clean, bright copy.
Carmine edition, issued 30 years after the first book appearance of this collection by Thomas Ingoldsby, the pen-name of English clergyman Richard Harris Barham. Featuring 12 black and white engravings by various artists, including George Cruikshank and John Leech, this is a lovely 19th century edition of this wonderful collection of myths, legends, ghost stories and poetry.

Green endpapers; 51 mounted color plates with captioned tissue guards. Spine ends minutely rubbed, fixed endpapers discolored, else a remarkably clean, bright copy in original pictorial dust jacket (slight edge wear, spine minutely sunned).
1931 edition being a reprint of the 1905 first edition containing all 51 of the original color plates. Washington Irving's beloved tale of a colonial American villager who falls asleep in the Catskill Mountains only to wake up 20 years later, having missed the American Revolution. Rackham's stunning and extensive color plates beautifully showcase his magnificent talent. This is as close to a perfect copy as we have ever seen!
