Folds; some ink burn; short separation at one fold; very good. 1874 advertising broadside for a United States Army quartermaster's sale in Reconstruction-era Mississippi, apparently unrecorded. The sale of camp stores and garrison equipage was held in Jackson, Mississippi by order of Lieutenant I.O. Shelby, A.A. Quartermaster & Acting Commissary of Subsistence. The articles of condemned quartermaster's stores for sale included stoves, mule collars and bridles, tools, and various agricultural implements. Garrison equipage included various tents, shovels, and axes. Also sold was such food preparation and commissary property as butcher's cutlery and equipment, measures and scoops, and "1 Molasses Gate." Because of Mississippi's pre-Civil War heavy dependence on cotton and enslaved labor to plant and harvest it, the state remained under Reconstruction and military supervision until 1876. Near fine. 1960s Middle and Junior High School social studies unit guide promoting the values of diversity. The guide was prepared for teachers to promote geographical knowledge of the United States, skills for reading and gathering information, and "to help pupils get acquainted with; learn to appreciate and to respect all Americans from diverse racial, religious and nationality backgrounds." Author Edyth H. Ingraham was a school principal in Philadelphia and was that city's chapter president of the Association for the Study of Negro Life and History. The guide, which highlights the achievements of numerous ethnic groups in America, was published by the Black publishing house, The Associated Publishers, Inc. of Washington, D.C., and contains an extensive bibliography "for the development of respect for the Negro American."
