Caroline Sleeper Harper was the wife of Joseph Wesley Harper Jr., a businessman and the son of one of the founders of Harper & Brothers, a prominent publishing firm. She was the mother of Henry Sleeper Harper, a passenger on the RMS Titanic who survived the sinking. Her husband, Joseph Wesley Harper Jr. (1825-1896), was the son of Joseph Wesley Harper, one of the founders of Harper & Brothers. He joined the firm in 1848 and became a partner in 1851. A translation of Ubu Roi, which opened in Paris in 1896. This volume includes the entire Ubu cycle for the first time in English: King Turd; King Turd Enslaved; Turd Cuckolded/ The translation is by Beverley Keith and George Legman. Laid-in are two letters from Legman to bookseller M. J. Royer of Los Angeles, one of them attaching a carbon of the then proposed dustwrapper notice, and the other a proof sheet of page 43 with portions of 42 and 44, Also laid in is a letter from Royer to writer Theodore Reeves suggesting he meet Legman, whom e he describes as a character, 'but I think, brilliant and worth knowing." .

Light rubbing to edges and hinges, else this is a very good copy. John Jones (1766?-1827) was a Welsh Unitarian Minister and a lexicographer of note. Besides religious tracts, he published a Latin Grammar and two version of the Greek Lexicon as well as a curious retort on the Explanation of the Greek Article (1827). His Greek Grammar approached the subject in a new way and was frequently reprinted. Copies of the first printing are scarce in commerce. .
