In heavy decorated black & white cardboard wrappers, the book is very clean and solid. Includes cartoons on being African-American, Johnson began his career as a graphic artist. He soon went on to write his first novel, "Faith and the Good Thing" in 1974 and his later works included "Middle Passage" that won the 1990 National Book Award and was the basis for the 2000 film by the same name about the capture of African slaves that were brought to America in the late 1770's. A nice copy by this important African-American writer.

This is the third novel in the war trilogy preceded by "From Here to Eternity" and "The Thin Red Line." In Near Fine condition, the book is in Fine condition very faint light fading at the edges of the moire silk endpapers and two tiny touches on the gold gilt page edges so light they do not affect the gilt. Also with gold gilt cover designs and bound-in silk bookmark. A nice copy.
