Description:
London: Heinemann, 1933, 1933 First Edition, First Impression. Great deco style illustrations, and a charming tale from a great storyteller. One of the most attractive Priestley editions, and this one is in an unclipped very good jacket. Signs of age are inevitable, but this is still tight and strongly bound. Jacket is not torn, nor clipped. Book has an inscription on the half title and a later owner's blind stamp. RARE and collectable despite the caveats. 0.0 0.0 0.0. 1st Edition.. Hardcover. Odhams Press London This is a scarce booklet, and it was undated, but I assume it to be during the Second World War. A charming collectable, and of interest to anyone regarding social history or the habits and concerns of the recent past. It is well worn and tatty, but it is also extremely rare, hence the price.. Description:
Daily Mirror London, 1949 One of the best and most nostalgic works on cooking. Just after WW2 - and with food rationing still in force - the Daily Mirror used its power to promote basic nutritional values and cooking in the average home. The result was this delightful vintage cookbook, with artwork for the excellent comic strips by the brilliant Jack Dunkley. Spiral bound so it lays flat, you will find vintage ads and basic well laid out sections. Life was tough but food could still be made more appealing. This is a good clean copy for its age, and is rarely found in such a good condition, without any former owner signs or any sauce scatterings. BRILLIANT and nostalgic, it is a wonderfully collectable recipe book with superb drawings. Language: eng Language: eng 0.0 Language: eng 0.0 Language: eng 0.0 Language: eng. 1st Edition.. Soft cover. Batsford, 1944 Considering it's age - published in 1944 with War Economy conditions - this is a super copy for the collector of this fine series. Gorgeous evocative photographs, diagrams and drawings with very high standard of photography. The two authors are as knowledgeable as they are enthusiastic, and this revised version is the one to collect. The jacket has a painting wraparound by the great Brian Cook; apart from being price clipped it is without flaws and is protected. A neat owner signature to the front end paper.. 2nd Edition.. Description:
Whitman, 1945 A true pulp, and the paper used in this book's production has mellowed down to demonstrate that fact. It is brown as a smokers lung. Great jacket, absolutely terrific endpapers, and a total essential joy for the Tracy fan. Rare to find a copy as good and complete as this one. Please note that near Fine takes into account that this is now an old hardback first edition of a book produced with cheap materials. But that patina is just an additional joy to the true collector. Numerous superb graphic illustrations from Gould. Nice and square, no lean, and an extremely attractive uncommon first printing of the world first edition hardback. A former owner's name is almost lost on the front end paper. The killer kills, the moll purrs, the straight man wins and this is as good as it gets. 0.0 0.0 0.0. Description:
Michael Joseph, 1962 First Printing of the First UK hardback Edition. The brilliant David Cobb jacket is unclipped and now protected. It has very few small clippings, none of which intrude on anything important. Even the spine of the jacket is almost unsigned. This has been read but well looked after. The time April 1803. Hornblower who, directly after his wedding ceremony, is ordered to take his ship, the HMS Hotspur, to observe the French coast, Channel ports, and around to the Bay of Biscay. This, his first command as Master and Commander, gives ample opportunity to help thwart the ambitions of Napoleon, who is building ships and amassing supplies for an attempt to cross the Channel and invade England. At 27, Hornblower has already had adventures which have brought him praise and notice. And with the Hotspur his exploits tumble one after the other. Reconnaissance, daring shore raids, cutting out expeditions and skillful navigating in treacherous tidal waters bring the reality of the blockade to the… Read More

Description:
Random House New York, 1940 Early first year printing with green boards and black lettering. Book has little sign of use, but the jacket is edgeworn with a few chips and minor tears, and it is now protected. Green boards are not bashed or dented but there is some edgewear. The front flap outlines the story and has the price of $2.50 on the top right of the flap. The back flap outlines "The King's Stilts" and has a price of $2.50 in the lower right. The back has the famous selection of reviews by kids, ending with '"WHOW!" - Don J'. A beautiful copy in the hand, I have tried to describe the faults as honestly as possible. Please look at the photographs. This is a clean text copy, no colouring in or scribbles, and no owner name. It is nice and tight still, and without any abuses. Description:
Milton Balch & Co., 1933 It is an unacceptable book if you apply today's values to it. BUT in its day it was an amusing account of geographic exploration. The author's exploration on the Amazon, Rio Negro, and overland to the Orinoco is related with zest and humour. It is redolent of its time, and to criticise it because it does not follow todays restrictions in attitudes is quite the wrong way to look at it. Think of it as another kind of Travels Of Marco Polo if you like. You do not read it because of its facts; it is mostly an enjoyable romp reflecting its time. Holdridge was attached to the Brooklyn Museum's Department of Ethnology and he wrote several books of fiction & non-fiction set on and around the Amazon. Book is graded Near Fine but that allows for its age. The protected jacket is complete despite minor chips and usage. There is a splendid Ex Libris pasted onto the rear of the front endpaper. The end papers, front and back, are a splendid map of the travels covered in… Read More
