Book fine but for couple of abrasions to pictorial pastedowns. A tight and quite nice later printing of this enormous and heavily illustrated survey. The largest section is devoted to World War Two, and this copy bears a choice autograph addition: Tipped to half-title page is a fine, glossy heavy stock 3½" X 3" card signed large and bold in black fineline by Jerry Collinsworth (1919-2010), a World War Two ace with the Army Air Corps who saw extensive action over the British Isles and in the North African campaign.

This copy bears a iunique frontispiece, for tipped in facing the title page is a fine, heavy stock leaf, a facsimile of a 16th century woodblock engraving depicting a medieval gent (likely clergy) writing in a book in his library while rows of persons seated behind him hold up open books, caption beneath reading "Gentlemen look more like gentlemen when fine books are spread out in rich magnificence before them."
