The discussion covers such facts at that the surgeons of the Britsh Navy "with which we come most frequently in competition", and even the sugeons of "our neighbor" the Republic of Mexico receive better pay...

Thesis. A very rare Prague imprint of which only one other copy is recorded (the NLM's). There are several references to van Leeuwenhoek and his microscopic blood cells observations. -- (some scattered light foxing).

This is number 8 out of the 50 copies not for the trade. Volume I: De Utrechtsche Academie 1636-1815; volume II: De Utrechtsche Universiteit 1815-1936. (Weight of the set is 8 kg. and might require additional postal charges).

With a nice half-page amorial engraving by Rössler and a few woodcut head- and tail pieces. The rare first edition. A very popular work of which 17 editions have been published between 1753 and 1828 in 3 languages. Former owner inscription (L. Merlin) on title.

With 57 woodcut figures in the text. ¶ First edition. Kloete Nortier, a pupil of Miquel and Apr. J.E. de Vrij, was a very prommising pharmacist at Rotterdam. Unfortunately, his early death prevented a great scientific career. Through the publication of his commentaries on the Ph. Neerlandica he got involved in a polemic with G.J. Mulder. A second edition was published in 1865. See Stoeder p 361 & 401; Bierman, p. 159 & 183; Wittop Koning, Compendium, p. 232 & 270. Copy with the signature of two former owners (L.S. Gaaikema & L.A. Feitema).

The text for the foreign platns was supplied by author's brother, Max, the director of the botanical garden at München. -- (Cancelled library stamp on title and preface; lower corner of title very slightly damaged).

With the portrait of pastor Kneipp, and numerous text figures. ¶ Kneipp's main work, a combination of hydrotherapy, dietetics and regemen. A very good copy of an early edition. First published in 1886, this book conquered Europe instantly. It was translated into many languages, and reprinted many times. The second part is the "Apotheke" (p. 110-160).--(Canceled library stamps on title; paper age toned).

The work is concluded by a catalogue of pamphlets (1636-1637) compiled by J.C. Westerman. The whole is finely printed on handmade paper.--(N.E.H.A., 11).
