Description:
This book is in very good condition. There is little to no wear on the front, back, spine, and edges of the cover boards. There is little to no bumping on the corners of the cover boards. The previous owners name is affixed to the inside of the front cover board. The pages are yellowing but clear of any markings. "Anyone trying to discern the plan underlying the structure the second and larger half of the book of Isaiah must stand back and survey it as a whole. Otherwise he will lose his way in the details, the considerable number of problems of literary criticism which occur, and the apparent stumbling blocks, if not contradictions, in the composition. Such a survey must accept, as an established conclusion of scholarship, that the previous history of two blocks of tradition, chs. 24-27 and 36-39, is distinct and separate...." - In Place of a Preface from The Old Testament Library's Isaiah 13-39: A Commentary

Description:
This book is in good condition. There is some wear on the front, back, spine and edges of the cover boards. There is slight bumping on the corners of the cover boards. There is some staining on the front, back, spine and edges of the cover boards. The lettering on the outside of the cover boards is fading. The previous owners name is affixed to the inside of the front cover board and the previous owners seal is stamped on the front end page. "This commentary follows a consistent course in the critical approach which it adopts. Over a decade I have arrived at the view which differs fundamentally from previous literary assessments of the book of Isaiah. My understanding of the so-called memorial of the prophet Isaiah on his activity at the time of the Syro-Ephraimite war (6.1-9.6) is fundamental in this respect. Once one allows that this is a composition aimed at coming to terms with the exile in the sixth century, the rest follows almost automatically. Perhaps, therefore, I may be excused for having…

Description:
This book is in good condition. There is a lot of wear on the front, back, spine and edges of the cover boards. There is also a substantial amount of staining on the cover boards. The pages are yellowed and tanned. There are also markings throughout the book. "The roots of this book reach back to the early 1950s in Paris, where I began my professional career as a journalist. France, supported by the United States, was then fighting to retain its hold in Indochina against the Vietminh, the Communist-led nationalist movement there. As I reported on the French end of the war, I soon became acquainted with the names and places in Vietnam from a distance, But I scarcely imagined that they were to be part of my own experience. Then, in 1959, I was assigned to cover eastern Asia; the region that included Vietnam became my beat for more than two decades. I visited Vietnam most recently in 1981 for seven weeks, the longest permitted an American correspondent since the Communists gained control of the entire…

Description:
This book is in very good condition. The only problem is the previous owners name is written on the inside front cover and stamped on the front end page and stamped also on page 215. Also, included with this book is an actual invitation from the Inauguration of Jimmy Carter and Walter Mondale. He has been called America's greatest ex-president, a man who lost the White House after one term but went on to become a respected spokesman for peace and human rights. Burton Kaufman's book on the Carter years was hailed as the best account of his administration. This new edition probes more deeply into Jimmy Carter's approach to the presidency and the issues that he faced, placing his tenure in that office more squarely in the context of the fundamental changes taking place in America while he served. It features more information on his foreign and environmental policies and expanded coverage of his personal background-both his upbringing and naval career-along with insights into his wife's activist…

Description:
This book is in good condition. There is a significant amount of wear and stains on the dust jacket. The cover board has some wear on the front, back, spine and edges. The corners of the cover board are bumped. The pages are tanned but clear of any markings."The Layman's Bible Commentary is based on the conviction that the Bible has the Word of good news for the whole world. The Bible is not the property of a special group. It is not even the property and concern of the Church alone. It is given to the Church for its own life but also to bring God's offer of life to all mankind-wherever there are ears to hear and hearts to respond...." - Preface from The Layman's Bible Commentary: Volume 23: 1 Thessalonians, 2 Thessalonians, 1Timothy, 2 Timothy, Titus, Philemon
