Captioned "Ratification or else an Indigestible Meal," the cartoon shows the iconic Tammany Tiger eagerly swallowing a large rat labeled "Chicago Platform, Candidates and Everything Else." The reference to the Chicago platform is to the national Democratic Party's presidential convention held there in 1896 and which nominated William Jennings Bryan as their anti-gold standard (and pro-silver standard) candidate. Friedegg [Mauthausen, Upper Austria]. November 5th, 1884. 8vo, bifolium. 4 manuscript pages. Without transmittal envelope. Fine condition. A solemn and dramatic letter written from the perspective of a son returning to the noble "ancestral halls" of his family to visit his father, near death. The letter is autographed at its conclusion "Lippe-Weissenfeld" and we infer the deteriorating father to be Karl Oktavio, Graf (Count) zur Lippe Weißenfeld, born November 6, 1808 and died February 13, 1885. This letter is written about 4 months before this man's death. The son writes a poignant evaluation of his father and his health upon seeing him in this saddened state of decline: "I found my dear old father alive: but how sadly changed! The noble frame broken - his intellect veiled - his raven hair and beard bleached - his body partially paralyzed. Our meeting was touching. What a blessing not to have come too late. Publicity photograph, with condition issues, of the hip-hop duo Da-Lite and Kool Keem who performed as Better Knowledge. From the contact telephone numbers, the duo may have been performers from New Jersey. Inscribed by both to Jennifer and Kettye: "All the Best Marvin J. Hart [a.k.a. Da Lite]" and "Knowledge is the key! Kool Keem." Kool Keem appears to have later been based in Los Angeles as a soloist.

[No place, c. 1830s-1850s]. Original ink, wash, and pencil drawing. 10 x 12 inches. Nineteenth-century framing and glazing. Very good. Original ink, wash, and pencil drawing of Yale College and the old Connecticut Capitol. The scene was drawn from the perspective of Chapel and College Streets in New Haven and shows the old neoclassical capitol designed by Ithiel Town in 1827. The rather accomplished drawing is signed by artist S. F. C. King who depicts these New Haven landmarks from a popular vantage point. The artist's depiction is similar to New York neoclassical architect Alexander Jackson Davis' 1834 engraved view published in the second, enlarged edition of John H. Hinton's History and Topography of the United States. Davis was a partner of Ithiel Town. A lavishly-illustrated edition of Kinglsey's Westward Ho. American artist Thornton Oakley (1881-1953) was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He was familiar with its railroad factories and steel mills. After studying in Wilmington, Delaware with illustrator and painter Howard Pyle, Oakley began his own career as an illustrator.

The five reports seen here were issued approx. every two weeks from May 22 to July 22, 1872. One report appears in duplicate, both in a broadsheet format and the more typical bifolium format.
