Description:
Danbury, New Hampshire: Addison House, 1976. First edition. Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. Introduction by Russell Baker. 71 photographs. Pioneering collection of photojournalism, capturing memorable scenes of New York City between the late 1940s and the mid-1960s. Freezing the constant action and reaction that occurs in the city, these images reflect Kalisher's belief that photography is a form of propaganda where "truth lies in the eye of the beholder," and that "the excitement of the individual photograph is in taking possession of a moment and owning it, not for as long as it takes to happen but for a lifetime." Includes an afterword by Allon Schoener. Inscribed by Kalisher on the title page. Previous owner's ink stamp to the title page and the front flyleaf. The dust jacket is slightly edgeworn, with two short tears and some mild creasing to the spine head; otherwise a very good copy. Inscribed by Author.
