Description:
Kent writes a discerning letter identifying the poems which "roused" in him a "deep emotion." to an English professor about verses he illustrated. "With the exception of 'The Hunting of the Snark,' the 'Bab Ballads,' and such things which I have over and over again thoroughly enjoyed, I must say that 'enjoyment' is not the term for the deep emotion...that greater poetry has roused in me, I am not telling you what poems I have enjoyed, but what poems have most moved me...." He continues to reply to his correspondent's request to suggest a poem for a book. "...there is little sense in mentioning "The Odyssey,' or even 'The Ancient Mariner,'...his final words to the Wedding Guest, beginning, 'Farewell, farewell, But this I tell....'and continuing to the end. These last stanzas, following all the poem that has preceded, are to me a deeply moving and convincing a creed for living as I know...." He signs above the typed name, "Rockwell Kent." Fine insight into Kent's literary tastes. Paper clip rust stain… Read More

Water color on paper of a woodland scene, signed, approximately 10 X 12 inches, matted in in tan archival material, measuring with mat 13 1/2 x 12 1/2 inches. King was not a designer in the traditional sense in that she did not make clothes, but rather, she created water color sketches of her fashions. In 1932, she was discovered by Lord & Taylor, the first store to sell her garments. Later that year, she opened her own couture salon on East 61st Street in New York. Her designs were popular among socialites. In 1943, she designed Flying Fortress uniforms for women workers at Boeing Airlines. The Museum at FIT held an exhibition of her design, "Muriel King: Artist of Fashion, " in 2009. Autograph

Description:
Autograph Letter SIGNED with Original Art to H. Rider Haggard. Kipling suggests a plot change for writer friend H. Rider Haggard and explains his idea with a sketch. Kilpling draws a gyroscope to clarify his idea for Haggard's last important novel, "When the World Shook." Kipling calls Haggard, "Dear Old Man," then offers his thoughts on Haggard's book. "Your Oro is no small person - a gent with a delicate mind and insensitive leanings. Note, however, that the idea of a great gyroscope that goes out of control has been used. It was created for demonstration purposes, slipped on its base and ground a hall full of people to rags. Put on your scale, it's a simply hellish idea...." Here, Kipling illustrates the gyroscope in a small sketch and suggests an alternative gyroscope that shifts internal strata and tilts the earth. "Get the thing to unchain some inconceivably vast...heated rocks loose...The girl could stop it at the last minute of course...." KIpling then describes Haggard's account of Theodore… Read More
