Fragile card binding exhibits acceptable wear, some creasing, name 'Lizzie Hallborg' (partially obscured) to each flyleaf. A very good set of this important work; the author being the first female recipient of the Nobel Prize in Literature.

With the illustrated dust-jacket, priced at 25s. Bookseller's label to front pastedown, and a blue ink ownership to fly-leaf. Jacket toned to spine, with some light wear and a few closed tears to edges. Very good.

Paris: Librairie Dufart, 1840. [Children's Mythology] FINELY BOUND THIRD EDITION. Duodecimo (14 x 9cm), pp.viii; 324. All text in French. With 15 engraved plates at rear. Contemporary blue half calf, with gilt titles and ruling to spine, and blue marbled cloth over boards. All edges speckled red, with green-coated endpapers. A small ownership to fly-leaf. Quite heavy spotting throughout. Light wear to binding, recently re-coloured. Very good. A popular French guide to mythology for children, including stories relating to Hinduism, Mithraism, Egyptian gods, the myths of Greece and Rome, and stories from Norse mythology.

London: Edward Moxon, 1844. [Poetry] FINELY BOUND. Two volumes bound as one. Octavo (15 x 11cm), pp.[14] 304; pp.[6] 301 [3]. Purple half morocco, with gilt titles to spine. Toning to textblock edge, wear to board corners and spine edges. Some minor marking to rear board. A very good copy.

London: Robert Scott, 1915. [Children's Illustrated] LEATHER-BOUND FIRST MULLINER ILLUSTRATED EDITION. Small quarto (23 x 19cm), pp.[4] 242 [2]. With 16 mounted colour plates, including a frontispiece, by Mulliner, each with a captioned tissue guard. Recently re-bound in red half morocco, with raised bands, gilt titles and decoration to spine, and matching cloth over boards. With the publisher's original cream gilt-stamped cloth bound in at rear. Toning to edges and final leaf, with some spotting to first and final few leaves, otherwise a clean copy in an attractive new leather binding.

London: Bickers and Son, 1888. [Shakespeare] FINE PRIZE BINDING. Octavo (22 x 15cm), pp.[10]; 386; [2]. With twelve photogravure illustrations including a frontispiece. Red full calf to boards, double-ruled in gilt. Green label with gilt titles, gilt tooling, and raised bands to spine. Gilt dentelle to board edges and turn ins. Marbled endpapers. All edges gilt. Rebound by Bickers. Interior bright and clean, the odd mark here and there. Prize inscription in black ink to preliminary leaf, dated to 1888. Boards slightly scuffed, spine a tad sunned. Some wear to joints and extremities, corners gently bumped. Very good. Charles and Mary Lamb's famous prose re-tellings of Shakespeare, intended for the enjoyment of children. This edition features illustrations from the Boydell project, an artistic venture which capitalised on the mid-18th century Shakespeare revival in England.

London: George Routledge and Sons, no date [circa 1880]. [Children's Illustrated] GILBERT ILLUSTRATIONS. Octavo (17 X 11cm), pp.[2] viii; 371; [3]. With eight wood engraved illustrations by Gilbert, including a frontispiece. Contemporary green half morocco with raised bands, gilt titles to spine and marbled boards. All edges and endpapers marbled. Internally clean, modern portraits of Shakespeare and Charles Lamb pasted to front endpapers. Binding a rubbed and worn to extremities. Good.

London: Edward Moxon, 1853. Foolscap octavo, pp.viii, 436. Bound by Kerby and Son of Oxford Street in full tan calf with dark green title label to spine, five raised bands, extra gilt decoration, two-line gilt border adorning front and rear boards, marbled edges and endpapers, gilt detailing to board edges. Bookplate of Nevile Reid with Latin motto roughly translating to 'For Truth'. Light handling wear, slight rubbing to spine joints and front board, top edge a little faded, foredge and tail edge vivid, text block clean excepting some spotting toward first and final few leaves. A very good copy.

Publisher's maroon cloth illustrated in gilt to upper board, black labels to spine with gilt lettering, illustrative dust-jacket with printed price of 15/- to front flap. Illustrative endpapers with map of Alexander's World, occasional maps throughout. Toning to edges of textblock, scuffing to cloth and wearing to spine labels, sunning to dust-jacket spine and chipping to base and crown, soiling to white back of jacket, price clipped. Very good. In this book, Lamb strives to make the almost mythological hero, Alexander the Great, into a believable human. Beginning at his childhood and marching onto his military conquests, Lamb creates a 'superb interpretation of Alexander'.

In 'Constantinople' Lamb recounts the history ranging from the decline of Rome to the reigns of Justin I and Justinian.
