General Clay's careful yet gripping account of Germany's first four years after WWII. As Allied C-in-C, the author organised the Allied Control Council and outwitted Zhukov with the Berlin Airlift. He also discusses Nuremberg, the Black Market and the all-threatening Iron Curtain. Utterly absorbing. The UK edition, published in the same year as the US edition, is scarce, especially in this condition.

Warne,, [1963]. Sm. 8vo., First Edition, with 12 plates, 36 illustrations in the text and pictorial endpapers; original series binding of blue faux-morocco cloth, upper board blocked and lettered in gilt, gilt back, a near fine copy in dustwrapper, THE LATTER WANTING BOTH FOLD-INS. This scarce title in Warne's famous 'Wayside & Woodland' series replaced Worthington-Stuart's 'Collecting & Breeding Butterflies and Moths' (1951). The jacket was a surprise - a colour photograph of the author and his son in the premises of Watkins & Doncaster, the 'butterfly shop'. It was itself later revised under the title 'Studying Insects. A Practical Guide' (published outside the W&W series in 1973). VERY SCARCE IN THIS CONDITION, ESPECIALLY IN THE DUSTWRAPPER. Marren, pp.184-186.

Dorchester,, 1959. 4to., with a frontispiece, 3 plates on 2 and 6 full-page illustrations in the text; wrappers, sewed as issued, a very good copy. One of the (apparently) many copies bound without the five location maps at end, a shortcoming largely overcome by exhaustively detailed descriptions including, in most cases, full national grid references. One of the several county catalogues compiled by the author following publication of his general study 'Ancient Burial-Mounds of England' (2nd edition, 1953). The analytical text is followed by a catalogue of Bell, Bowl, Disc and Pond Barrows, among others.

Putnam,, [1947]. 8vo., First Edition, some mild offsetting from fold-ins to free endpapers; blue cloth, gilt back, boards very lightly faded, backstrip suuned at extreme head and tail else a very good, bright, clean copy in unclipped dustwrapper, the latter mildly faded, lightly rubbed at extremities and chipped (not affecting lettering ) at head and tail of backstrip. Third and final novel of the 'Eustace and Hilda' trilogy, following 'The Shrimp and the Anemone' (1944) and 'The Sixth Heaven' (1946).

ROBERT SINKER'S COPY WITH HIS SIGNED INSCRIPTION ON FRONT FREE ENDPAPER VERSO. Robert Sinker (1838-1913) was famously Librarian of Trinity College, Cambridge and Chaplain of Trinity College Chapel. He compiled several bibliographical works, including a scholarly account of the College library and the standard Catalogue of its Fifteenth-Century Printed Books, and was active also as a biblical scholar, publishing a number of textual studies resulting from the progressive archaeology of the Holy Land. A SPLENDID AND IMPORTANT ASSOCIATION COPY.
