A little girl, Alice, is fancifully introduced to the orchestra and it's instruments.

Cover is worn and soiled, retaped and split, contents age-darkened, front endpaper mising, some loose signatures, insecting by considerate bugs who dined mainly in the margins, owner's name on title page, folding maps are age-darkened, edgewear to one map, both maps complete, and text is complete.

Over 800 black and white and color illustrations; color plates all with tissue-guards. Ex-library, spines darkened, volume I chipped at head and tail of spine, both volumes with moderate wear to edges. Interiors of both volumes are clean and bindings are tight. Le texte et les illustrations des 2 tomes sont en très bon état. A very handsome set of books. Extra heavy books may require extra postage.

INSCRIBED AND SIGNED BY AUTHOR on front free endpaper, presentation inscription in another hand on title page. Brown textured cloth, quarter leather bound, elaborate gilt scrolling and lettering to spine, all edges gilt. Wear and scuffing along spine, foxing to endpapers and first and last several pages, binding is sound. A rare example of a book inscribed and signed by lexicographer Pierre Larousse. Text in French.
