Octavo (21cm.); original cloth, decorative paper label printed in red and yellow mounted to upper cover, red pictorial dust jacket, red topstain; [8],308pp. Jacket extremities chipped and rubbed, one closed tear measuring approx. 1.5" to top edge of upper panel affecting a couple of letters, spine darkened with shallow losses to both ends. Still, Near Fine in Near Very Good jacket. Novel based on the fate of the French frigate the Medusa, which was shipwrecked in 1810, with only 15 of approximately 400 passengers surviving on a raft, immortalized in Théodore Géricault's painting "The Raft of the Medusa," a reproduction of which adorns the jacket cover.
