Hardcover. 16mo (6.25" x 3.5"), full brown calf, gilt-stamped lettering piece at spine, vii, [2], pp., 10-210, early inscription of one "Cyrus Edson" in ink; initials "E.E" handsomely penned in ink on ffep and title; and ink-stamp of one "Dr. Ezra Edson, Manchester, VM" on ffep. CONDITION: Good, rubbed, two gatherings a bit loose but holding. Moral tales first published anonymously in 1771 by Scottish author MacKenzie. The early owner of this volume, Dr. Ezra Edson, was a botanical physican in Manchester, VT. who advocated the Thomsonian method in the 1830s, named for medical reformer Dr. Samuel Thomson. Slipcase worn at extremities, some splitting along edges but still reasonably intact. One of 1500 copies signed by the illustrator Robert Gibbings. This copy number 1241.

A handsomely produced brochure illustrating the Manitou Grand Caverns, with pictures of the following caves and formations: "the Narrows," "Grant Monument," "The Interior Cascades," "The Dairy and Churn," "The Organ," "The Seven Columns," "The Card Rack" and "In Grand Concert Hall." Collects, for the first time, the history and publications of the Officina Bodoni.

New York Privately Printed for An American Place, 1931. 8vo (9.875" x 6.5"), gray cloth, gilt title at spine. Facsimile of an autograph letter bound in. Laid in photograph and newsprint portrait. First edition, limited to 400 copies, this copy number 343. Inscribed by Marin on the half-title: "To Stanley Clifford write some more, John Marin." A volume of letters written to Alfred Stieglitz between 1910 and 1930, reflecting the close relationship between the artist and the gallerist. Stieglitz was a crucial figure early in Marin's career, giving him his first one-man exhibition in 1909 at gallery 291 and providing him with financial support. Many of the letters included here were written from Stonington and West Point, Maine. A photograph of Marin's cottage at Cape Split, Maine, taken by Stanley Clifford in the fall of 1950 (and so inscribed on the verso) is laid in. Clifford was a Deer Isle, Maine antiquarian bookseller and a friend of Marin. CONDITION: Near fine.

CONDITION: Very good, wear to extremities, cover illus. rubbed, one inch split in paper in inner front hinge, rear hinge sprung but holding firm, two light stains to front cover, rear cover moderately soiled. First edition of this popular account of the disastrous sinking of the Titanic. Published almost immediately after the tragedy.
