Description:
Chicago Illinois: The Arkansaw Traveler Publishing Co., 1889. Life in early Clark County, Kentucky, is recalled in this new 53 page booklet titled: Clark County, Kentucky, USA. The spiral-bound booklet is a compilation of excerpts from several hard to find sources: the 1877 Atlas of Burbon, Clark, Fayette, Jessamine and Woodford Counties, KY (maps only); the Handbook of Clark County and the City of Winchester (1889); and Kentucky, a Guide to the Bluegrass State, a 1939 product of the WPA Writer's Program. The tri-color cover is printed on 80# card stock and protected with a vinyl sheet. The text is printed on 8.5" x 11" 60# paper. Although the writer of the handbook states that it is not "designed to be a biographical dictionary", there are nonetheless a number of prominent citizens mentioned, sometimes with photographs of themselves and /or their homes. The writer further states that "the keynote of the book is to present Wincheste and Clark county as they are," so the booklet is not primarily a… Read More

The spiral-bound booklet is a compilation of excerpts from two hard to find sources: the 1924 book, History of Mercer and Boyle Counties by Maria T. The tri-color front cover is printed on 80# card stock and has been protected with a vinyl sheet. The text is printed on 60# opaque paper. Among the many subjects from the Daviess book are: Geography and Boundaries, Soils, Timbers, Flora and Rivers; Early visitors, explorers and settlers -- Abram Hite and Jacob and James Sandusky, Gabriel Jones and others; First marriages and births; Hardships and Mode of living in early days; Separation from Virginia and Kentucky's admission into the… Read More

Description:
1910. If you are trying to track down ancestors who lived in Pendleton County, WV, this is the booklet for you. No history here -- it's strictly a goldmine of GENEALOGICAL information. The 196-page spiral bound booklet is printed on 60# white bond, 8 1/2" x 5 1/2", with the front cover protected with a vinyl sheet. The booklet is taken from Part II of "A History of Pendleton County West Virginia" by Oren Morton (1910). Although the booklet is new, it was reproduced from an old book in which some names were circled or underlined. Where this was done in pencil it has been erased, but where it was done in ink, it still shows up in the reprinted booklet. The booklet begins with a chapter on "The Nature of Family-Group Histories." As the writer concludes "When persued in the proper spirit, a genealogical search will result in new inspiration of effort rather than the reverse." This is followed by three brief but informative chapters on genealogical research, including a section separating the various… Read More
