Ayer & Son Advertising Agency in Philadelphia. Signed First Day Cover, 6½" X 3½", cancelled in Washington, DC on 31 May 1960 and with "First Day of Issue" boldly stamped. Near fine. Four "SEATO Unity Peace Progress" 4-cent stamps at upper right and ornate Art Craft cachet honoring the South-East Asia Treaty Organization at left. Near the center, Maass signs boldly in black fineline, adding "Designer" below.

Perfectly pristine first edition of this superbly-illustrated chronicle of this three-quarter's of a century old music festival -- with choice presentation inscription from Macaluso in black ballpoint on title page: "Dear Senator Stevenson, / Thank you so much for visiting the Grant Park Music / Festival in Millennium Park and for all that you and / your family have done for Chicago and Illinois! / Sincerely, / Tony Macaluso." In addition, the front flyleaf bears the enormous (8"!) signature in black marker of this music festival's conductor, CARLOS KALMAR, and below it that of its chorus director, CHRISTOPHER BELL. From the collection of Adlai E. Stevenson III (1930-2021), U.S. Senator from Illinois (1969-81). An outstandingly unusual copy.

On letterhead of the Waldorf Astoria, where she lived for many years, MacArthur thanks this noted Milwaukee inventor/engineer for a Christmas card and adds "best wishes for this New Year." Art Geisert is a noted Midwest children's book etcher and author whose style is very much akin to Macaulay's; some of his books were co-authored by wife Bonnie.

This1949 Associated Press basketball "Player of the Year" helped bring St. Louis University the 1948 NIT Championship; in 1949 he debuted with the St. Louis Bombers, playing also for the Boston Celtics and St. Louis Hawks before retiring in 1959; he was named MVP of the first NBA All-Star Game and played in the first three All-NBA First Teams; in 1960 he became the youngest player inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. Vassar College's longest-serving president was its fifth (1915-46), an effective academic administrator who was also their first secular president and helped to found Sarah Lawrence College. TNS, 1p, 8½" X 5½", Poughkeepsie, NY, 8 January 1930. Addressed to John T. Owen. Very good. Lightly age toned, with inoffensive staple hole at upper left (not affecting text) and small chip at upper right corner. "I shall be glad to have you use the photograph of me made by Pirie MacDonald in the booklet you are preparing, and you are hereby granted permission to secure this from the photographer." Boldly signed in blue with his usual "H.N. MacCracken." The noted New York portrait photographer (1867-1942) -- known as "Photographer of Men" for he only photographed males -- shot anyone who was anyone in that area for decades, and MacCracken sat for him in 1924. Owen was perhaps a publicity or marketing person working up a Vassar promotional brochure.
