Chicago: IPE (Institute of Positive Education), 1975. A slight wrinkle; fine. Bifolium, approx. 7-1/2 x 8 in., printed on all sides. Printed program for an event co-hosted by Haki R. Madhubuti and Kalamu ya Salaam at Madhubuti's Institute of Positive Education in Chicago, June7-8, 1975. The event was highlighted by "We Meet with Our Elders," featuring appearances by John Henrik Clarke, Nelly Fuller, Yosef ben-Jochannan, and Chancellor Williams. The two-day program sought to promote unity among the organizations that had grown around the country in the wake of the uprisings in Newark, Watts, and Detroit.

N.P. (Los Angeles): League of Women Voters, 1944. Fine. Mimeographed broadside, printed on one side of a legal-sized leaf, approx. 8-1/2 X 14 inches. Following the Dumbarton Oaks conference, which laid out the plan for creating the United Nations, discussion sessions were organized by the League of Women voters to go over the proposals and inform the public. This bulletin-board poster, with its cartoon of four nations represented by figures each in a flag-bedecked phone booth, includes blank spaces where the specifics date, time , and place of such meetings could be filled in by local organizers. The follow-up conference in San Francisco in 1945 resulted in the first U.N. Charter.

Los Angeles: United Committee Against Heusinger in Washington, 1961. Folded once horizontally, fine.. Broadsheet, single leaf approx. 8-1/2 X 11 inches, printed on both sides. Heusinger had been Chief of General Staff in the German army under Hitler, and later Inspector General of the Bundeswehr in postwar Germany. He was in the room with Hitler when the bomb exploded in the 1944 assassination attempt by Claus von Stauffenberg. His appointment as head of the NATO Military Committee in Washington was controversial, but he served in the post until retiring in 1964. Extensive text in this poster appears in English on one side and in Yiddish on the other.

Paris: Bernard Grasset, 1933. First Edition. Unopened; faint hint of toning toward edges; fine in original glassine. 8vo, 276pp; priginal printed wrappers. One of 300 roman-numeraled "exemplaires de press" out of 1400 printed on Alfa Navarre. There were another 72 copies divided among smaller limitations on different fine papers. This copy bears an undated signed inscription on the half-title: "A Monsieur Gabriel Marcel en bien sincère hommage, Irène Nemirovsky." Born in Ukraine into a Jewish family, the author fled at age fifteen with her parents during the Russian Revolution of 1917, eventually settling in Paris. She enjoyed modest success as a French writer, especially with her first novel David Golder (1929), but along with her family she was denied French citizenship. Because of her Jewish heritage -- and despite her conversion to Catholicism -- she fell into disfavor under the Vichy regime. Neat pencil owner's signatures; fine in a lightly soiled, edge worn but complete dust jacket (design by Sugar) with some old tape-mends to the underside.. 8vo, 226pp; cloth-backed boards. Author's first book and one of only two to appear in English during her lifetime. Well regarded in France during her lifetime, Nemirovsky was killed in Auschwitz and did not achieve widespread acclaim until the posthumous publication of her unfinished "Suite Francaise" in 2004. Quite scarce, especially in dust jacket.

A social and psychological history of hair by the inventor of the "permanent wave." The unsigned dust jacket design features a wonderful streamlined-moderne image of a head of long, flowing blonde locks.

Book of poems by the prolific English journalist and novelist. This edition made up from sheets of the London edition, published by G. Allen Unwin in the same year, with a cancel title page tipped in. Inked to the front pastedown is a neatly drawn monogram of the initials A.B. (Albert Boni?).
