First edition in English of this history, written by the first official historian of the Ottoman Empire. There had been a Turkish print edition in 1734. 'The Nansen Office was set up in 1930 in accordance with a League of Nations resolution to keep up the relief work that had been launched by Fridtjof Nansen, the first high commissioner for refugees. Early in the 1930s, the Office was busy in helping Armenians who had been driven out of Turkey, and it was an important driving force behind the drawing up of the League of Nations Refugee Convention. Very rare. Substantially enlarged second edition (the first edition of 1910 had only 102 pages), the laSt before the Great War, which changed aviation technology fundamentally. This rare work sums up the achievements of aviation design, with some almost forgotten types of aircraft.

First edition. The Neve brothers - Ernest and Arthur - had been appointed directors of the Medical Mission in Srinagar in 1886. During their time at the mission (Arthur died there in 1919), they climbed and travelled extensively in Kashmir, Baltistan and Ladakh. The present volume includes an account of the ascent of the highest of the Kolahoi peaks in 1911 with Kenneth Mason. Neate N13; Yakushi N36.

Provenance: front pastedown with library plate of Flyfishers' Club, with deaccession stamp. First edition. Scarce. Henry Garrett Newland (1804 - 60) was the rector of Westbourne in West Sussex. Most of his published works were books and pamphlets in support of the Tractarian movement, but he also wrote a work on Norwegian landscape and this entertaining, anecdotal volume on fishing in Ireland. First edition; the author's own copy which is inscribed by Beverly Nichols to the front free endpaper in ink, "Beverly Nichols, Personal Copy, March 1970". Interestingly the book was published in 1971, so it is not clear what the explanation is for the author predating it here, it might have been a simple mistake or reflect the date of the writing of the story. This work is more commonly found as a Knight Reader, issued at the end of the 1970s. The author, essayist, journalist and playwright John Beverley Nichols was a huge celebrity in his day and became a much-loved public figure who was probably best known for his writings about gardening. First edition. Possibly the scarcest of Nielsen's illustrated fairy tale books, particularly complete with the dust jacket.

First edition. Collected short stories from writer of supernatural horror Hume Nesbit. Nesbit was fond of ghoulish supernatural themes driving ordinary people to desperate (and usually tragic ends). The stories in this volume include "The Demon Spell," "A Face at the Window" and "The Odic Touch", amongst others. The eponymous Haunted Station is counted amongst his most popular stories, and is frequently reprinted in horror anthologies. Nesbit was also a keen artist (though he enjoyed less popular success in this field) and he provided the frontispiece for this volume, which depicts a haunted moonlit seascape from the story "An Ocean Dream". Later red cloth, front wrapper with mounted lithograph in two colours mounted on upper board; pp. [viii], 55, 7 lithographic plates in two colours by the author; edges of mounted front wrapper with a few chips, not affecting illustration, text evenly a little browned, due to paper stock; a very good copy. This is the first edition of an excessively rare Polish avantgarde book production, the first book pulication by Marjan Niżyński (1910-1943), a poet, playwright, painter and graphic artist, whose experimental theatre production Dalmino was closed down by the censors in 1930 in Cracow. In 1943 he was run over by a German car. The poems in The Story of the Hunchback of Jaffa Port by the teenager is considered a masterpiece of haunting scenes depicted in very expressive language. OCLC locates copies in Wayne State and Poland; not in COPAC.

First edition, reissued in 1765 with the author's name to title page. The contemporary pen inscription to fly-leaf reads: 'this is said to be one of the best modern authors of China'. First German edition of this personal account of Turkey during the First World War, well-illustrated and with the fine wrappers designed and signed in print by Hans Anton Aschenborn, poet, book illustrator and painter of mainly South African animals. Rafael Inchauspe Méndez, known as Rafael de Nogales Méndez was a Venezuelan soldier who fought in several armies almost world-wide, including this one, the First World War, where he observed atrocities against religious and ethnic minorities in Anatolia. Later he joined the Nicaraguan revolutionary Augusto César Sandino. It is reported that De Nogales and T. E. Lawrence encountered each other; without, however, exchanging a single word.
