Description:
[San Francisco]: John Henry Nash, 1924. Broadside. Very Good binding. Bifolium. 15.25" x 11.25" (15.25" x 22.5" opened). [4] pp. (French fold). Bold page-spread printed in black stylized font with borders and decorative title spanning the spread in black and bronze. Light soiling to the exterior. It was issued with a reproduction of a painting by Maurice Logan. Sadly, not present. O'Day offers a nostalgic and overly romanticized view of quaint times when "the Japanese woman in her native dress was a familiar figure." Though undated, contextually O'Day is referencing a time prior to the Immigration Act of 1924. O'Day writes: "By stern mandate of Federal law the Japanese are prohibited form coming to us, and those already domiciled here have put on many customs, and notably the apparel, of their adopted land." An uncommon piece of ephemera with only a half a dozen institutional holdings (OCLC: 16166928).

New York: Oliphant Press, 1969. Hard Cover. Very Good binding. 12mo. [24] pp., illus. Limited edition, number 32 of 75 copies. In publisher's cloth-backed boards with title in gold on the spine. Four engraved illustrations, 3 with some hand coloring. The bottom corner of the front board is bit worn with some loss to the paper; perimeters of the boards are a bit sunned; previous bookseller pencil notes on the front free endpaper and an earlier penciled price is faintly visible; contents are otherwise clean. A charming book with quite lovely and delicate illustrations. The Oliphant Press was founded by Ronald Gordon who studied under Leonard Baskin and Harold McGrath at Amherst in the 60's and at that time interning at The Gehenna Press. Gordon founded the Oliphant Press in 1966 and his gift is evident even in this early work. Gordon remains active a significant figure in printing and books arts as of this writing.
