Originating from a shorter paper read at and published by the Royal Society in 1895, the present work is the first appearance of Ogilvie's full research report on corals. The only copy on the market, this cutting edge scientific work by a female scientist appears at only two institutions according to OCLC, and none in the U.S. Four years before becoming the first woman to obtain a PhD in geology, Maria Ogilvie presented and published her works on the multitudinous varieties of Madreporarian corals. Inscribed on the front endpaper "To Paul, Love Yoko Ono." In just about Fine condition, with only the slightest bit of edgewear and some creasing near the front joint. Internally clean and unmarked. "The original Grapefruit is split into five sections - Music, Painting, Event, Poetry, Object -- with each page offering a conceptual direction for work yet to be created...After Ono married John Lennon, Simon & Schuster published a new edition of Grapefruit, though this version included some editorial revisions and additions -- the most prominent among the latter being a short foreword authored by Lennon" (The New Yorker). An "Advance Uncorrected Proof" copy in blue paper wraps with a Houghton Mifflin label tipped on the front cover with the expected publication details. Additional notes in pencil and pen that appear to have been made by someone on the editorial staff. A Near Fine copy of the book with a small crease on the front corner and wraps slightly toned, otherwise in excellent condition. Pages numbered 1 - 165 (trade edition ends on page 181), with variations in layout and preliminary pages, and possibly other changes too. In the third year of Harvard Law School, John Jay Osborn, Jr. crafted this novel based on his own experiences within the pressured environment of Harvard Law. The main character, Hart, is an aspiring lawyer from Minnesota who becomes obsessed with the work of his professor, Charles W. Kingsfield. Inner hinges expertly and invisibly repaired, some minor rubbing and creasing to corners, otherwise near fine.Large quarto (11 3/16 x 8 1/2 inches; 285 x 215 mm.). Twenty-six leaves printed on heavy card stock, each printed on both sides with fine chromolithographic decorations. On each leaf is a Bible verse, printed in black and red on a gold background; on the verso is a full-page color illustration on a gold background. The text and the illustrations are within elaborate illuminated borders. A wonderful example of Victorian chromolithography at its very best by one of the masters of the art form. Owen Jones (1809-1874) was a Welsh architect, decorative artist and ornamental designer. Wilfred Owen, a British soldier and poet, is best remembered for his verse about World War I. Killed in battle in 1918, most of Owen's poetry was published posthumously.
