Creasing to both spine ends, light bump to corners plus small indentations part-way along top cover edges. Rubbing in various places on cover. Minor foxing on some pages and to end papers. A good+ copy.

With tipped-in manuscript 3pp Signed letter from the author to John Shelly of Plymouth) after front free endpaper, thanking him for his help with the book; Shelly is listed as one of the subscribers to the book at end. HB. Quarter Leather- Green cloth with leather spine lettered in silver and gilt to spine and with gilt vignette to front cover, and gilt top page edges. Hand-cut fore-edges; printed on laid paper. xvi, 312pp, 24 x 17cm. With original engraving as frontispiece (pasted to paper), three other original engravings pasted into plates (on thicker paper) , plus16 b&w plates from line drawings by the author, and a folding map at back (all as called for). This copy has the bookplate of ecologist Bryan Sage inside front cover. Very Good copy. Clean bright covers with a few light surface marks and bumped corners; most pages clean and unfoxed, occasional browning and foxing, and leaves at both ends are foxed, including the map. Fine in Very Good protected jacket, which has crease to back flap and fade around spine.

Folio. xxi, 401pp. With 77 illustrations in plates and the text (engravings and b&w photos) including a tissue-guarded frontispiece and one colour plate ; and 9 maps (some coloured). This volume begins with the geology, paleaontology and natural history of Leicestershire, followed by human early history, including Romano-British and Domesday, and ends with ecclesiastical history. A Fair to Good copy overall: the pages are very good and clean, and well-bound. However, the covers are poor: the front board is attached by threads only, and the spine leather is half lost, though the gilt titles remain. A reading copy or a suitable rebind.
