Battista Bidelli..., 1645. 4to, 265 x 210 mms., pp. [xx], 132, with engraved title-page, engraved portrait of dedicatee, and 12 full-page engraved portraits of Milanese viscounts, engraved by Paolo Bianchi, contemporary limp vellum (a little soiled); inner margins of front and rear end-papers at little wormed with some very slight water-staining, none of which affects the text or the engravings, a very good copy, with the 19th century book ticket of Conte Gropello di Alessandria on the front paste-down end-paper. In a letter dated 1521, he expressed his intention to put together some real portraits of men of letters, whose eyes would stimulate men to virtue. Giovio… Read More

A fine copy. Lawrence Parsons, Second Earl of Rosse (1758–1841) entered the Irish House of Commons in 1782 and became a friend of Henry Flood, the radical patriot. After the death of Flood in 1791, amid much other political activity, he opposed the Union with Britain. "By his will, [Flood] left the bulk of his property, valued at £5000, to Trinity College, Dublin, after his wife's death, for the establishment of a professorship of Irish, for the maintenance of a prize fund for composition, and for the purchase of Irish books and manuscripts. Paisley: Printed by John Neilson, 1788. FIRST AND ONLY EDITION. 8vo (in 4s), pp. 76, disbound; text browned. Patrick Hutchison (c.1740 - 1802) spent his entire ecclesiastical career in Scotland, chiefly at the church in Canal Street, Paisley. He was a minister of the Relief church. Sir William Drummond, of Logiealmond (1770?–1828) was educated at St. Andrews and Christ Church, Oxford; he had been a Member of Parliament when he published this volume.
