The son of Pabst Brewing Company founder Frederick Pabst became president of this Milwaukee firm upon his father's death in 1904 and remained so until 1921, when he branched into real estate and many other business and civil endeavors. TDS, 3pp, 8" X 13" (stapled into 8½" X 14½" heavy stock folder), Milwaukee, WI, 1 April 1900. Very good. Three folds and quite minor edgewear. Lease agreement between Pabst Brewing and Company and the Wheeling Bridge and Terminal Railway Company of South Wheeling, West Virginia, in which the brewer rents a building and property at the South Wheeling railroad terminal for one year for the sum of $120 per year. Signed at the conclusion by a representative of Wheeling Bridge and Terminal Railway Company and by Gustav Pabst (then Vice President of the brewery) large and bold in brown ink. Mild binding wear, though gilt gleams; other than small inoffensive stain at lower outer corner of couple of preliminary leaves, text block is "tight 'n' bright," uncannily pristine. Internally, an exceptionally nice and sharp later printing of this standard text.

A tight and nice first edition of #1161 in the "Big Little Book" series, a film spinoff based on Vance Joseph Hoyt's 1931 novel "Malibu: A Nature Story." Film scene (featuring star Jean Parker) and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Picture plug on front board and film scenes sprinkled throughout. A lovely copy.

Very good. Tight and internally near fine, with slight rubbing to binding (mainly along spine). Tight and quite nice first edition of this Brazilian bibliography, entirely in Portuguese, whose title translates "Catalog of the Cervantina collection with which the National Bibliotheca of Rio de Janeiro competed for the Exhibition commemorating the 300th centenary of Don Quixote held by the Portuguese Reading Cabinet on June 12, 1905." Front pastedown bears small, light "Duplicate" inkstamp of The Hispanic Society of America. Scarce and unusual -- a must-have for the thorough Quixote collector.

First edition of this commentary (entirely in Spanish) whose title translates as "The Free Man of America: A Postwar Vision." On the half-title page, he inscribes and signs large and bold in blue ink: "To Mr Schuster, / with best wishes / E Padilla." Padilla (1890-1971) was a Mexican statesman and politician who held many high-level offices: attorney general, secretary of public education, ambassador to Hungary, secretary of foreign affairs and others; in 1946 he ran for the Mexican presidency. A tight and attractive first edition, limited to 785 copies, of this (to cite slipcase label) "full story of Lincoln's visit to New Hampshire in 1860 and its notable influence on his later career." This pioneering Danvers, Massachusetts brickmaker joined the militia as a captain in 1773 and led a Danvers Alarm List Company into battle at Lexington on April 19, 1775; he supposedly took part in the Boston Tea Party, and his forbidding the drinking of tea in his house (his wife and her friends then went up on the roof to imbibe) inspired poet Lucy Larcom's poem "A Gambrel Roof." As constable, Page makes a formal written declaration of payment from one party to another: "Decd. of Mr. Saml. Holten £2.17.9 in full of David Putnam Jr. Decd. Rates for the year -- 1758." Two ownership name/addresses neatly inkstamped on front flyleaf; a few text passages margin-marked and green highlighted, with couple of notes penned on rear flyleaf. A tight and nice first edition of the 8th Faith Fairchild mystery, boldly inscribed and signed by the author in black fineline on the title page: "To Alzina -- / With all best wishes to a / wonderful guide -- / Katherine" -- and below her printed name on the title page she signs again, this time in full.
