Description:
London: Robert Scott. London, Robert Scott, n.d. [1921 BL]. First Edition. First Impression. Lost Race. A nice copy in the rare dust jacket. Pleasently illustrated with chapter vignettes and some full page illustrations (unattributed). Not really a lost race novel, given the prehistoric setting (pretty much everything would be lost race), but sits will within the Lost Race collective. Bleiler has Blue Wolf as a pseudonym of Robert Scott, various other sources name Joyce Reason. Reason seems more likely given the subject matter, and Robert Scott is noted as the publisher of the book (and others), so probably just a mistake. In Bleiler under Pre-historic Life [p26], Locke's state A [Vol I, 937]. Provenance: George Locke. Condition is near fine, jacket largely complete and in good shape with a couple of chips, the larger being to the spine. A little offsetting to the endpapers. [5953, Hyraxia Books]. n.d. [1921 BL] . Near Fine. Hardback. 1st Edition. 1921.

London: Allen and Unwin. London, Allen and Unwin, 1946. First Edition. First Impression. Hardback. A very good copy. Inscribed by both Reynolds and Crisp. The first inscription is from the author to his friend, painter Arthur Ballard. It's noted as the first copy received from the publisher (1946), it has subsequently been inscribed by Crisp, the artist, to fellow artist Mervyn Levy. A lovely set of inscriptions. The jacket is tanned to the spine and a little edgeworn, and printed on wartime paper (the reverse is a French map). There's a chip to the top edge of the jacket rear. Nice shape overall. Illustrations by Quentin Crisp [9824, Hyraxia Books]. . Very Good. Hardback. 1st Edition. 1946.

Description:
None: None. None, None, 1906-1909. Manuscript. Unbound. French translations of three of HRH's novels. All translated around the time of their respective first English publications, and presumably in the translator's hand (or their secretary). The translator is not named. HRH was translated into French in the 1880 and 1920s, but nothing in the 1900s, so the assumption is that it isn't one of those translators (Lemaire, Benoit, Lebouchere). A mystery to be solved. There's nothing to suggest these were authorised translations either. Either way, it appears that they remain unpublished in this form. I can find only a French translation for Ayesha, and that is a somewhat recent publication. It's hard to speculate as to the purpose for which these were intended, though given the span between the translations someone was likely preparing them for publication. (1) Ayesha. 355pp autograph both sides, lacking pp235-254. 28th September 1905, Paris. (2) Benita. 270pp autograph both sides,…
