Appears very little read/used. A slight bump/rub mark to the head of the front board but nevertheless - very well preserved.

Type: Z A two volume set of this limited edition, being no.881 out of 1000 published. First English translation with an introduction by Anatole de Montaiglon. Bound in green silk with gilt embossed vignette to the front boards and lettering to the spines. Illustrated with 15 b/w plates with tissue guards, including a frontispiece plate to volume I - all as called for. There is light rubbing to the board and spine edges and the cloth at the head and tail of the spine is lightly turned in. Two board corners are bumped to both volumes and there are a few light stain marks to the boards. One split to the outer hinge of volume I measuring 1 cm and one split to the outer hinge of volume II measuring 2 cm in length. Numeorus charming illustrations throughout by the author support the text, many in colour, others are line drawings. The pictures and pages are fresh and bright, well preserved. Pictorial hardboards with quarter cloth. Light bumps to two corners and all corners are rubbed. Split of 2 cm to the cloth edge from the head of the spine. Light shelf weart to the boards. Tear of 1.5 cm to the lower edge of the front end paper and one of 1 cm from the front edge of the rear end paper, both with no loss. Evidence of moisture to the tail of the pages leaving a faint tide mark rising to 5cm along the inner margin. This tide-mark does not affect any illustrative plate, nor text. Slight wrinkling to the lower edge of the rear boards where the water damage has occured. Otherwsie the book is clean and tight. A lovely, well preserved copy… Read More

All edges gilt. Only edition. This little book contains early translations of Ukrainian, Serbian, Bulgarian, Slovene, Slovak verse into English. The author describes himself as "a Native of Volhynia, Southern Russia" . Some rubbing to tail of spine with the very slightest loss of cloth. Slight soil marks to cloth boards. Nevertheless, a very well preserved copy of a very scarce book.

Original publisher's red leatherette boards - gilt embossed to the spine No inscriptions but a neat printed former owner's bookplate is pasted to the front paste-down (Samuel Knox Gaw). Slight age toning and spotting to the endpapers. The jacket has not been price-clipped; it has the slightest of spotting to the verso, is a little creased to the head of the spine and has some uniform light fading to the spine (the titles in white and black remain completely legible). A lovely, clean, tight very good plus copy in very good jacket.

There is also a red decoratve design embossed to the front board and spine. The cloth at the tail of the spine has been turned and one corner has been lightly bumped. Light rubbing to the board corners. Presentation bookplate to the front paste down dated 1913 from Zion Baptist Sunday School. Some toning to the end papers. The textblock is very clean and tight. A well preserved, very good copy.
