Description:
n.p.n.d., Reprinted 1976, 1988. Print on Demand Edition 2011. (iii), 245 pp., new index Brief historical sketches and rolls and rosters of military organizations in the service of the Confederacy from the state of Mississippi are included in this book compiled by a member of the 10th Mississippi Regiment. This is a compilation of several newspaper sketches of Mississippi's military contributions to the Civil War effort. Some regiments are covered in chronological order with muster rolls, lists of engagements, and narrative reports, when available. While certainly not a complete state history, this primary source material has value and should not be overlooked. A comprehensive new index has been added to this reprint edition.

Description:
An original publication, 1995. xx, 146 pp., illus., index This book is the result of research done by Ellen Clinkscales Smith Rippy on her Smith and Sullivan family lines. Much of her work on the Sullivan history was facilitated by research previously available from other members of the family on the Sullivans, Brownlees, Dunklins, Hueys, Walkers, Clinkscales, Moorheads, and Gilkeys. Research into the Smith line was made more difficult because of some apparent conflicts in the line of descent and a lack of availability of authentic records. But, she finally placed the Smiths on the Broad River at Smith's Ford, in Cherokee County. John Smith was buried on this land and information on his headstone indicated that he had been born in Botetourt County, Virginia. Further research established that John's father was Henry Smith who had come to South Carolina from the Upper Shenandoah Valley area of Virginia. From the Smith's Ford location in South Carolina, children would later move into Anderson County and… Read More

Description:
Orig. pub. 1908. Reprinted 1978, 1988. Print on Demand Edition 2011. (vii), 650 pp., new intro., new index This "classic study of Mississippi's military heritage" is the result of "a monumental task of locating, identifying, arranging, editing and publishing," performed by Dunbar Rowland, then director of the Mississippi Department of Archives and History. It is primarily concerned with the Civil War, but all wars and campaigns from 1803 to 1898 are included. Each war is accorded a separate chapter, then subdivided into histories of each military unit. The sources included original manuscript rolls, minutes of military boards, order books, correspondence, diaries, scrap books, official reports, military telegrams, registers of appointments, newspaper files, military service blanks, interviews with soldiers, miscellaneous collections of military papers, and printed sources. Questionnaires distributed to Mississippi's veterans yielded valuable information that would otherwise have been lost. The new… Read More
