Description:
New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1949. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Good. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. Hardcover, no dust jacket. Stated first edition at bottom of copyright page. Paper covered boards with label on spine. No bookplates, no signatures. Front end page had something written in pencil and then erased, appears to be old seller's price. Binding nice, no torn or loose pages, no hinge cracks. Overall, pages are clean though while examining the book we found a small brown smudge on page four. Exterior boards are fairly clean, spine label is a bit sunned. The worst issue in the book is on the spine exterior just below into the left of the author's last name there's a damage at the edge of the spine of about 1/2 inch, with part of that area actually being a narrow hole. Book would normally be a VG but because of this damage the condition has been lowered to G. Not an ex-library copy! See photos.

London: Adam and Charles Black, 1899. Hardcover. VG+. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. See photos for condition details. Hardcover, green cloth boards show a couple light stains: one near the bottom half on the front and the other along the top edge on the rear board. This is why the book grades just as VG+ and not fine condition. The book has never been read as the majority of the pages, starting at page 29, are still uncut - either along the top edge or outside long edge the first two dozen pages were separated by the owner but the rest of the page quadrants still show the book was never used. No signatures or bookplates present, no library markings, no handwriting. There is scattered foxing present, particularly end pages and first few pages up to the preface.

Chicago, IL: Published by the Author / Anderson Bros., Music Typographers, 1894. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Good-. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. See photos for condition details. Hardcover, pale green paper covered boards with black cloth to spine. Front board is ornately decorated and rear board lists other publications by the author. Exterior is toned and spotted due to age. Internal binding of text pages is good though hinges are starting to crack at front and rear boards. Paper is quite toned due to age and quality of paper used. First end page has a signature on the front in pencil and another signature on the backside. No other handwriting found. The book contains numerous advertisements for the Randall organ and piano as well as other supplies. The reason for the low condition grade is because the last two pages have a long tear at measures roughly 8 inches from bottom to top, pages are still attached but not by much. Uncommon to find with only the 1894 date.

Philadelphia, PA: Philip H. Nicklin, Law Bookseller, 1820. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Poor. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. See photos for condition details. Hardcover, original 1820 publication still in full leather. Book is in very poor shape and is in several pieces but appears complete. Front board is detached and still has the pages up to the table of contents attached. Rear board is literally hanging on by a thread with the hinge break at page 576. The bulk of the text pages are still secure and intact. Paper is warmly toned with minor spotting and foxing present. No signatures or bookplates, no library markings. Although the book is in horrible shape as-is it makes for a very good candidate for rebinding. Note: this is the original publication from the 1800s and not a modern reprint. This is volume 2 only as each volume was published independent of each other and over a range of multiple years.
