Paris: Imprimerie François Bernouard, 1920. First edition. Hugo, Jean. 19 cm. x 27.5 cm. Unpaginated. Copy 44 of 85 on Arches (second paper after just 4 on chine, from a total edition of 101). The rare first edition of Radiguet's first book, published when he was but 17 years-old, and the first book fully illustrated by Hugo, who contributed four etchings. Contemporary dark blue goatskin gilt, slight spotting, else fine, original front wrapper bound in.

Fine condition. "Beginning in 1818, with his 2,000-mile tour to the west of the Alleghenies, Rafinesque made important botanical explorations, mostly on foot, as far as Kentucky and Illinois" (DSB). Ralston, William. Titled on the verso. Original four-panel drawing, in pen and ink, and blue wash. Signed with monogram, 13 in. x 5 in. Fine condition. William Ralston (1848-1911) was born in Dumbarton, and probably studied under his younger brother after abandoning a career as a photographer. He contributed drawings to Punch from 1870 to 1886, specializing in genre and military subjects, also to the Illustrated London News, The Graphic, and Cornhill Magazine, along with designing many publishers' cloth bindings.

Card covers, hand-painted by the artist, in a flourescent tinted Perspex box as issued. One of an edition of 30 numbered copies, plus two artist proofs, signed by the artist. Printed on the Indigo Digital Press by F.E. Burman, on 100 gsm Zerkall mouldmade paper. RadioPaper is a collection of abstract color lithographs by Mary Ramsden; the textured colors and her use of show-through give a sense of three-dimensionality. The title comes from one of the names used for electronic paper. There are five tiny stories by the two-time Granta award-winning novelist Adam Thirlwell, also partially hidden by the uncut pages. Printed on specially made Twinrocker paper, with the watermark of the artist's and author's signatures, it comprises 31 pages plus the title page and 4 colophon pages, printed from 37 stones and 27 aluminum plates, numbered [1],1-31, I-IV. 20-1/2 x 26 3/16 inches (52 x 69 cm.) folded. Copy 34 of a total edition of 36, plus 6 A.P. copies (the colophon calls for six, but they are numbered through 7). Signed and dated by Rauschenberg and signed and numbered by Robbe-Grillet on each of the 31 pages, each carries the embossed folio number and publisher's seal. Berkeley: Poltroon Press, 1976. first edition. Wrappers, 15 unnumbered leaves. Slight fading. Colophon: "One hundred coloured copies have been printed on the Poltroon Vandercook & five hundred copies offset at the West Coast Print Centre, Berkeley." This copy is the offset printing. Kit Robinson (in Dictionary of Literary Biography, vol 2 M-Z, Gale Research) describes the work: The sea-voyage theme, as in the nineteenth-century adventure novels of Jules Verne or Robert Louis Stevenson, suggests its obverse, the cozy, bourgeois domesticity by which the individual is secured from imagination's perilous seas (a boat is a room), but the violent swiveling and physical rupture of Raworth's prose, with the explosion of the image bank depicted in Frances Butler's illustrations, signals the obsolescence of western cultural icons, a space where, by a kind of Doppler effect, objects only get further away, a world in which "all books are dead & we live where the edges overlap.".
