An Exceptional Copy of Maxwell Parrish's Most Desirable Work. Maxfield Parrish's first edition is a high-point in American illustration. Printed onthick, glossy-coated paper, his colors are rich and exciting. There are 11 full-pg color illus, 9 large color illus within text, ownership pg, title-pg, character page and lush eps. There is a 1/2" wide x 1/8" high green color at the very bottom of the front cover (within border), one thin line and 3 small scratches to pictorial label, otherwise near fine condition. A great copy of a wonderful book.

On page 1 - there is a Photographic Sepia Print Tipped-In of 2 boys who made Aliyah. One could imagine the urgency in 1935 to reach Palestine - away from ominous times in wretched Europe. I would imagine not many of these books survived unless one did leave.The songs are by various composers - one of which is Chaim N. Bialik, a famous Jewish Poet who wrote in Hebrew and Yiddish. He is known as the National Poet of Israel. (He is actress Mayim Bialik's uncle.) The lyrics are in Dutch with a Hebrew translation. Music edited by Austrian-Jewish composer Paul Pella. This is the AMERICAN FIRST EDITION of 1918.SIXTEEN BEAUTIFUL COLOR PLATES WITH CAPTIONED TISSUE GUARDS BY RACKHAM as well as MANY LOVELY B/W DRAWINGS WITHIN THE TEXT. Thick, large, 8vo, red gilt cloth, top edge tinted yellow, decorated endpapers, 363 pgs followed by 4 additional pgs of advertising . This is a very clean, tight copy with light edge wear, at top edge of spine there is 1/8" neatly repaired closed tear - not affecting look or strength of the book. There was a flower put inside pages 326/327 - no longer present but there is offset from that plant.UNCOMMON RACKHAM TITLE - IN VG+ BRIGHT CONDITION.

HARLEM(black interest) A realistic story of 2 young boys who walk through Harlem to figure out whatthey will be when they grow up. John Steptoe has illustrated his story with his wonderfulllyvibrant color paintings. The book is in VG+ cond and so to is the un-clipped dj.

RICHLY COLORED OPAQUE ILLUSTRATIONSBa and b/w sed on Gulliver's Travels the book is illustrated in rich opaque lithographscartoon-like illustrations. There are 2 vertical illustrations per page and each is enclosedwith a thick black border. Under each "section" are 2 lines of lettered text. Black paper cover with paper pictorial label and decor eps. Lithographed at Belderbos & Coesel, Amsterdam. The artist, Jan Rinke, lived from 1863 to 1922. The corners, and spine tips are rubbed - more so at the top spine edge. On spine - there are a few spots where the black paper is missing showingthe cardbd underneath. It is a thin cover and there are creases which can be felt mostly on the back cover. The front inner hinge has been archivally glued in some spots. Still a nice copy of an unusual book
