Short story collection by the author of Ender's Game, Speaker for the Dead, etc.
Maps in a Mirror: The Short Fiction of Orson Scott Card Hardcover First Edition - First Printing TOR Tom Doherty and Associates Books 1990. Signed/inscribed (to me) with one of Card's typical dictums which he often would write in his books. This one "A glance in the glass", signed and dated 13 July 1991. Short story collection containing several divisions of stories, including The Hanged Man: Tales of Dread, Flux: Tales of Human Futures, Maps in a Mirror: Fables and Fantasies, etc. This book has been in my possession for about 26 years and well-cared for. Time to release it to another Card fan.

Description:
Unfathomable City: A New Orleans Atlas by Rebecca Solnit & Rebecca Snedeker Trade Paperback (as issued) First Printing University of California Press 2013. SIGNED by Solnit in her typical fancy style on the half-title page. Appears to be uncommon in the first printing and very few signed copies of this book available. Already into many printings. (Both authors have done similar cultural atlases for New York and San Francisco)
Like the bestselling Infinite City: A San Francisco Atlas, this book is a brilliant reinvention of the traditional atlas, one that provides a vivid, complex look at the multi-faceted nature of New Orleans, a city replete with contradictions. More than twenty essays assemble a chorus of vibrant voices, including geographers, scholars of sugar and bananas, the city's remarkable musicians, prison activists, environmentalists, Arab and Native voices, and local experts, as well as the coauthors' compelling contributions. Featuring 22 full-color two-page-spread maps, Unfathomable City… Read More

First Printing since there is NO subsequent printing information on the copyright page. Second state canary yellow boards with blue lines and lettering on the front and spine. NOT to be confused with the wartime edition in blue boards. (see edition information below)
Fine- in Near Fine unrestored Dust Jacket. A really nice exceptional copy in dust jacket. The book itself is just about fine with very clean pages. Dust jacket is quite clean and bright at the front, and does NOT have any major tears. Typical edge-wear top and bottom spine and rubbing and nicks to the same and at the corners, and some typical soiling to the back of the dust jacket. Overall a very clean and presentable first edition copy of one of the half-dozen major works of Steinbeck.

The Short Reign of Pippin the Short A Fabrication by John Steinbeck (author of Grapes of Wrath, East of Eden, Of Mice and Men, and Cannery Row) Hardcover First Edition - First Printing Viking 1957. Fine- in Near Fine- price-clipped Dustjacket. A really nice copy of one Steinbeck's more humorous offerings. Book itself is just about as close to fine as you could desire, corners straight, inner pages clean, spine lettering very bold, very slight toning to pages edges which is to be expected. The dust jacket is in really nice shape, very bright at the front, price-clipped and slight chip to lower rear corner, very slight fading to spine, and typical fraying to lower spine edge, else essentially all there. A very nice smart copy.

A first printing because of a lack a printing number-line on the copyright page which was Viking's way of identifying first printings until 1989. Red cloth spine and black boards.
Fine- in Fine- Dust Jacket, an excellent copy, by no means flawless, but pretty solid, boards actually pretty clean and corners are straight, two dust spots on the front board, slight hint of reading wear and but text-block is generally quite nice, overall a generally nice copy. The dust jacket is near-perfect save a hint of edge-wear to the spine and upper front edge. Priced to sell.
