Two small quarto volumes; in 3/4 crimson morocco, with double gilt rules at the edges, over marbled boards with matching marbled endpapers; lxiii, followed by XXIV leaves of printed plates of monograms; [1], 2-501 pages; [503], 504-1150 pages; the joints, especially the front joint of Volume I, are a bit tender; handsomely bound with raised bands, decorative gilt rules in compartments and lettered in gilt; Volume I has a small patch to the top of the spine; the pages of both Volumes are mostly unopened.~~Of printed in the 19th century, this Fine Arts reference book, was compiled by Shearjashup Spooner (for that was indeed his name and is it any wonder that he styled himself S. Spooner?) who was an American physician and writer; he became a dentist in New York and penned several treatises on dentistry, in addition to this popular Fine Arts history. Good binding.

Boston: Houghton Mifflin Co, 1922. First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good binding/Fair dust jacket. A first edition with a pencilled name and address on the front endpaper. The dustjacket is Fair only. The jacket has not been price-clipped, and has the correct First Edition price of $2.00 on the flap. There is about a 1" piece gone from the top the jacket spine, and about 2" from the bottom. The N. C. Wyeth illustration to the front panel is mostly present, but has a 1/2" x 1" amount of loss at the top edge of the illustration and there is minor loss at the front fold. The front of the jacket was in two pieces, and has been discreetly repaired on the verso. Very Good binding / Fair dust jacket.

The speech given by Henry Sacheverell before the House of Lords, on occasion of his impeachment after an incendiary sermon he gave, denouncing Whigs, Presbyterians, and Dissenters as false friends and enemies of the church. His conviction would cause a groundswell of support, rioting, and the landslide victory by the Tories in 1610, the year of publication. Disbound; toning to the perimeter of the title page. In this edition the device on the title page is a basket of flowers; a variant is a sun with a face in it. A Very Good copy of the First Edition. (ESTC T49661). Very Good binding.

A First Edition copy of the record of Henry Salt's journey along the Red Sea coast. In 1809, Henry Salt traveled through the Horn of Africa on a diplomatic trip to Abyssinia. Sent by the British Government to cultivate friendly relations and assess the state of the country, he would never reach the king of Gondar but delivered the presents of arms and ammunition to the Ras of Tigre, while also documenting and sketching his experiences with the peoples along the Red Sea coast. One of the more peculiar children's tales we've encountered, about a pyromaniacal little girl who burns off her head; it is replaced by a kettle with features drawn into place and held in place with a sunbonnet. Her parents are pleased as any good parents would be. A clean copy in the publisher's paper-covered boards back in blue cloth; the boards have edgewear and soiling, but overall an attractive copy. Scarce; we locate four copies on OCLC. Very Good binding.
