Contemporary vellum, spine with four raised bands, compartments decorated with gilt flower motif. Covers a little marked and soiled. Some foxing and browning but otherwise very good internally. An excellent copy of a scarce book of which Worldcat locates only sixteen copies worldwide. We have traced no copies at auction. Girolamo Saccheri (1667-1733) was a Jesuit priest and one of the most influential mathematicians of his time although the significance of his revolutionary ideas was not fully appreciated until 150 years after his death. As a young man, he taught at a Jesuit college in Milan where he encountered the mathematical work of the Ceva brothers. He spent most of his life teaching philosophy, theology and mathematics at the University of Pavia. Fine "Samaras"s almost obsessional self-observation extends past narcissism toward a physical understanding of himself." An interesting and scarce overview of Samaras' career of image manipulation to date.

'Der Flagellantismus Als Literarisches Motiv' was published between 1929 and 1932 by pioneering German sexologist Ernst Schertel by his own Parthenon Verlag publishing company. Following the nazi seizure of power in 1933 all such publications were suppressed with many publishers and authors sent, at best, into exile, and, at worst, into the new 'Wild Camps' at Dachau and Sachsenhausen. A slightly ironic result considering some of the senior nazi figures' predilection for similar material (Goering and Streicher spring to mind). This [the photograph on the title page] is in my apartment on Mott many years ago. LA 2009". In addition to the inscription, Schles has signed the title page "K.S." Tiny closed tear to the top edge of the upper cover of the dustjacket but otherwise in fine condition throughout. Remains of handwritten title label to head of the spine. Some wear to outer edges and corners but otherwise very good. Contents are very good but with light damp-staining to the lower third of the first thirty two pages. Browning to the title page and the last leaf but otherwise this is a clean tight copy. Ownership stamp on the title page of Dr med. R. Kobert, pract. Arzt. This is quite probably Rudolf Kobert (1854-1918), a pharmacologist and toxicologist who began his career working as an assistant to the physiologist Friedrich Goltz who, like Setschenow and Paschutin carried out experiments on the brains of animals. A nice copy of this important text with an interesting association. Full calf, spine lettered in gilt, all edges marbled. Slight rubbing to extremities. Internally very good. Overall a smart copy of an interesting local history.

The tips more graceful than usual with gilt rules to the borders. Spines with gilt ruled compartments and titles. A impeccably-bound set of Shakespeare. Volume One also containing Rowe's "Life of Shakespeare" and the text of his will. Volumes Nine and Ten contain prefaces and annotations.

Slight browning, short closed tear to E4 and a small ink mark to final leaf obscuring a few letters. Overall in excellent condition. Although Julius Caesar appeared in the First Folio of 1623, it did not appear separately in a quarto edition until 1684. A second edition was published in 1691 with four further undated editions appearing after this. The present copy is the first of these according with Bartlett's collation, pagination and catchwords for the third edition (save for p28 which is correctly numbered here). ESTC. Red label lettered in gilt. All edges marbled and marbled endpapers. Some slight rubbing to edges and a little scuffing in places to the boards but overall an attractive set in very good condition. Internally very good with a little browning in places. Engraved frontispiece portrait of Shakespeare. Engravings throughout reproducing scenes from the plays. Volume One has Rowe's Life of Shakespeare, Johnson's Preface, Shakespeare's Will and "A Glossary explaining the obsolete and difficult words in the plays of Shakespeare". Each play has annotations.

Original beige buckram, lettering stamped in red to upper cover and spine. Original brick red dustjacket, lettered in black. Some slight chipping to the extremities of the dustjacket but otherwise the binding is in excellent condition. Internally fine, many of the pages unopened. A particularly nice copy of this important and useful survey of the history of British etching beginning with the Flemish and other foreign artists who worked in Britain from the 17th century before looking at the indigenous British Schools from the 17th to 20th centuries.

First published, albeit pirate, edition, printed by William Clark assisted by the book pirate Thomas Moses whose "T.M." monogram appears below Clark's imprint on the final page of the text. Original drab boards, backed with green cloth, remains of paper label on joints. Corners worn and edges a little rubbed, boards marked in places. Hinges cracked with some loosening. Slightly foxed but otherwise very good internally. Front pastedown has booklabel of Christopher Clark Geest. First published in a small edition with a dedication to Harriet in 1813, Queen Mab was then printed twice, without Shelley's permission, in 1821. This copy is the version with the notes printed in full and with the dedication removed. It also has the final advertising leaf and some (intentionally) missing words on pp146-148. The original book has been disbound and the pages cut, very neatly and expertly and then carefully pasted at the hinge edge on a leaf of plain white paper so that the leaves of text are interleaved with the plain leaves. This is one way in which prompt books were made, allowing for notes and directions to be written on the plain leaves without disturbing the text. The leaves of text are cut to measure 151x95mm and the plain paper is 235x190mm. Bound in contemporary tan half calf, marbled paper covered boards. Rebacked with spine lettered in gilt. The centre of the upper and lower covers has a circular morocco label stamped in gilt with a coat of arms around which, in a circular band is stamped in gilt in gothic lettering, Johannes Ludovicus Gautier. Coll Regal Cam F. To the Mathematicall Schoole in Christs Hospital". Internally a few leaves have been repaired at the corners (without affecting the text), there are two repaired closed tears to the folding map of the Two Hemispheres and the folding map of the Sun has a tear along the central fold (no loss) and has a brown mark to the lower right corner (not affecting the image). Some foxing and toning to edges but overall a very good, complete copy of an important book in the history of early modern English science. The prints are in a large white envelope together with a separate title page on the verso of which are notes and details about the photographs (text in Japanese). They are protected inside the envelope by a heavy sheet of cardboard. This is all placed in a black card folder with an illustrated label covering part of the upper cover, spine and lower cover. The photographs are in excellent condition although there are some marks on the rear of the prints but these do not affect the images in any way. The white envelope has some fading and sunning and there is a little marking and spotting to the black portfolio case. Overall this is in very good condition - an excellent example of the complete set of these striking images many of which are from Shinoyama's 1970 book "Nudes".
