A rare set of works on heating stove designs, a popular scientific pursuit at the turn of the eighteenth to the nineteenth century. OCLC cites three copie of L'Art as being in libraries world-wide, none in American libraries, and on two copies of Preservatif, both at Yale. The plates show stoves with classic columns and Adam style ornaments, highly unusual in technical works. Very go (35743).

Henry Saint John Bolingbroke (1678-1751), the English statesman, wrote this pamphlet under the pseudonym W. Raleigh in response to a pamphlet by Calee D'Anvers regarding treaties made with Spain. Beside his work as statesman, Saint John is best known for providing the philosophical underpinnings for Pope's Essay on Man. This copy lacks the first leaf, perhaps a half-title, e very good.

Saint-Simon grew the flower on his estate near Utrecht. His work includes an extensive catalogue over two thousand double and single varieties known in 1767. The engraved vignette on the title page is by Jacob van Schley. Very light foxing and rubbing to cover; still a desirable copy in an unsophisticated contemporary binding.

It was the most popular of Salmon's price books with editi up to 1774--all of which are scarce. It established the market for consisten price manuals for the building trades that led to his other comparable titles The Builder's Guide, (1736), The London and Country Builders Vade Mecum, (174 and Palladio Londinensis, (1734)--covering the work of the major building cra including bricklayers, blacksmiths, carpenters, pasterers, painters and trimmers. It is especially interesting from the viewpoint of French Renaissance architectural history. Sambin, a French architect, cabinetmaker, and joiner was a pupil of Michelangelo. In the present work he explains by means of textual description and illustration eighteen pairs of "termes" base on the five orders with his own inventions. There are thirty-six fine and delicate full-page woodcuts showing decorated and detailed figures.
