Slight fading to the periphery of the boards. Bump to the tail of the spine and a little rubbing to the head and tail of the spine with a couple of slight nicks to the cloth. There are a couple of pages with very neat ink annotation and a few pages with pencil annotatioon. Otherwise clean and tight. A very good copy.

Colour frontispiece plate and numeorus other illustrations throughout the text. Fresh and clean. A slight bump to the head of the spine and to the head of the rear board - several slight bumps to the lower board edges.

There is also an autograph letter signed (ALS) to a 'Dear Barbara' from the author explaining some of the challenges of getting the book published and a newspaper cutting showing a picture of the author with her book next to one of MacNicol's paintings so a really personalised special copy. No other inscriptions. The text supported by a number of colour photographic reproductions of the artist's and other contemporary artists work. Original publisher's black boards - gilt embossed to the spine. The jacket has not been price-clipped and has slight shelf wear and slight rubbing to one tiny place on the rear flap. A very good flat signed copy with lovely provenance.

Light foxing to the upper fore-edge and slight foxing to the endpapers. Several tiny nicks to the jacket (which has not been price-clipped) which have been repaired to verso with sellotape. A very small circular black ink stain to the verso of the jacket. A very good clean, tight copy.

Bound in black quarter leather with 5 raised bands to the spine. There is gilt embossed lettering and small decorative designs between the bands. Marbled boards and end papers. Numerous charts and tables throughout support the text. Text in French. Volume XXV - complete in its own right. There is light rubbing to the board corners and edges. There is some splitting to the front inner hinge between the half title page and title page, revealing the cords and the half title page is a little loose. The front board remains firm and attached. There is a little rubbing to the head of the title page and a little staining to the head of the rear blank pages. A little normal age toning to the page periphery as expected for a book of this age.
