Frontispiece portrait of the author; engraved vignette on title page, repeated on last leaf; three plates depicting the arms of 213 monasteries described in the text. Contemporary full calf; spine in 7 compartments with raised bands; leather lettering label, gilt. Pp. 405-408 and 619-620 misnumbered, 403-406 and 919-920 respectively. Printer's records indicate 500 copies printed. Hinges cracked but firm, spine tips worn, tiny closed tear on the title page, else this is a very good copy. ESTC T92354.

Garden City: Doubleday, Doran & Company, Inc, 1928. First edition. Fine. Hardcover. 8vo. 253pp. Blue cloth with yellow paste-ons printed in black on the spine and upper board. Top edge yellow. Colorful endpapers in blue and yellow. This copy is as bright as the day it was published. We note only a tiny bump on the top edge. The dustwrapper is fine as well, and is not price-clipped. It is a slight crease corresponding to the bump on the board beneath it. Sometimes call Tarkington's only flapper novel. And you will not find a nicer copy.

Kyoto: Tanaka Nao Senryōten, 1975. Limited edition. Loose plates. Fine. Portfolio containing 150 samples of Japanese weaving mounted onto think handmade paper and with the names of the weaves and weavers. The samples are arranged by locale, from Kyushu to Okinawa, ten areas in all. In fine condition. The protective portfolio is doubled, with the inner section covered in cream cloth, and the outer in deep blue cloth. One of 750 numbered copies. In original shipping containers. This is the volume containing samples to an accompanying text, not here present. In Japanese, but there is a computer printout listing the mounted samples in English. .

Nicely bound in quarter green morocco, gilt spine title, pebble-grain green cloth. Plates have varying degrees of light spotting and soiling else this is a very good copy in a fine binding.

Exquisitely illuminated on every page in full color and gilt by Alberto Sangorski. The edges are worn, inner hinges cracked and vellum lightly stained with age, else this is a very good copy. The scarce dustwrapper is present. It has significant wear especially to the edges of the folds and with a worn hole in the spine, Still it gives a good appearance. .

The original price on the spine was at some time neatly excised, but left the "$" intact, indicating this was a copy intended for the American market. Contains "Enid," "Vivien," "Elaine" and "Guinevere" from Tennyson's Idylls. The designs on the upper board incorporate King Arthur's shield and crest, both forms of the expected dragon rampant. Original boards, paper spine. Hinges cracked but firm, and a neat repair of the bottom inch of the rear hinge else about fine. Listed as Part One on the title page, but we have not been able to discover whether any further parts were published and this work is complete in itself. Garnet Terry is usually known for his work as an artist/engraver and the author of several pamphlets on engraving. This work, apparently his only work on Christianity, provoked 'The Bank Note' by V. M'Culla in 1806. 'The Bank Note' has been called a 'virulent sectarian attack' on Terry's work. M'Culla identifies Terry as a 'minister of darkness' in Clare Court, Drury Lane. Paris: Ernst Henri, Editeur, 1925. Loose plates. Good. Folio, 11 by 15 inches. Portfolio of 40 loose plates. Paper over boards, cloth spine, printed paper label, cloth tie. The plates are printed in full color and mounted to a gray card with a printed black border. Portfolio well worn, and the spine repaired. The text pages are soiled and chipped. The mountings for the plates are sunned along the edges, but the plates are fine. Overall a good copy. These embroideries and woven printed fabrics were exhibited at the U.S.S.R. pavilion at the International Exhibition of Decorative Arts at Paris in 1925. The samples were supplied by ethnographic museums and almost all of them were produced in the 19th century. A few are from the 17th and 18th century and plates 26 and 27 are from modern Ukraine. .
