Description:
[Montreal]: R. Stanley Weir, 1909. Good. Pamphlet. 22 cm; 20 pages and printed self wraps. Vertical fold, lower wrap dog-eared. A screed against prostitution and the consumption of alcohol in Montreal. Financed and printed "for gratuitous circulation" by Weir, the text consists of an extensive judicial opinion by Taschereau first handed down in 1904 in the case of Montreal v Legault (chief of police accused of accepting bribes from sex workers). Taschereau singles out prostitution "among the plagues of humanity" and goes on to argue forcefully against any notion of a legalized or tolerated sex trade.

Giambattista Bodoni quite adored this rather light pastoral romance by Torquato Tasso. It was the second book he printed on his own private press (before he had permission to work on his own in addition to running the Royal press) in 1789, in a quarto format. Description:
New York: Charles Scribner's sons, 1893. First edition. Very Good. 19 cm; 179 pages, and 34 half-tone plates and vignettes. Bound in green decorated cloth, attributed to Margaret Armstrong. A good, tight copy with minor surface blemishes only. Alice French, writing as "Octave Thanet," gained literary fame for her socially perceptive fiction, while she and her partner Jane Allen Crawford hosted the literary and artistic life of Eastern Iowa at their home in Davenport. Ever expansive, French became fascinated with the art, techniques, and chemistry of photography. She set up a darkroom in her home and went on several photo expeditions. "An adventure in photography" is a travelogue as well as a manual, including darkroom formulae, advice on framing and shooting photographs, and copious reproductions of her own photos. The Alice French house in Davenport is now landmarked on the National Register of Historic Places
