A PRESENTATION COPY FROM THE AUTHOR WITH HIS SIGNED HOLOGRAPH INSCRIPTION ON FRONT FREE ENDPAPER. With 20pp of trade advertisements (a number illustrated) bound in at rear. Lovely copy of this classic and scarce work, which includes an extensive glossary of terms.

Commin, Exeter,, 1908. 4to., Best Edition, on laid paper, with a portrait frontispiece (short closed tear), 14 plates and numerous full-page facsimiles in the text, partially unopened, one or two leaves poorly opened; strongly bound in contemporary maroon half roan gilt, maroon buckram boards, back gilt with five raised bands, leather label gilt, gilt top, marbled endpapers, uncut, covers lightly age-scuffed else a very good, bright, clean copy. Handsomely bound copy of the substantially rewritten and enlarged issue of the original edition of 1886. Lists around 330 works with discursive bibliographical notes. Scarce in this condition. Warne,, n.d. [?1929/1936]. Sm. 8vo., with coloured frontispiece, numerous coloured and monochrome plates, and pictorial endpapers; original series binding of tan leatherette, upper board and backstrip blocked and lettered in gilt and black, brown sprinkled edges, radial corners, fore-edges lightly spotted else a near fine copy in unclipped dustwrapper. Probably either second impression [1929] or third impression [1936] but certainly a near fine copy. First published in 1923 and one of the few W&W titles never to have been revised (it was last reprinted in 1948). 'It is a real period piece and belongs to a lost world of nature study and domestic museums' (Marren). VERY SCARCE IN THIS CONDITION. See Marren, pp. 156-158.

Longman Hurst Rees Orme and Brown,, 1819. 8vo., First Edition, Large Paper, with engraved and printed titles, and 41 fine engraved plates as called for; contemporary half calf, marbled boards, red sprinkled edges, back gilt with five raised bands, second compartment with red leather label ruled and lettered in gilt, all other compartments ruled in gilt, joints tender but sound, small crack in backstrip else an unusually crisp, clean copy. The complement of plates matches the binder's directions bound in. Anderson p.262; Steward 363.

A presentation copy from the author with his long signed holograph inscription on front free endpaper verso. The 98th served in France, North Africa, Sicily, Italy and Holland; the 144th served in Africa, Sudan, Abyssinia, Eritrea, Egypt, Libya, Cyrenaica, Persia, Iraq, Syria and Lebanon. Notable actions include Alamein, the Sangro, Cassino, Gothic Line, Keren, Tobruk, CRUSADER and Gazala. Includes ROH, honours and awards, glossary and bibliography. Scarce, especially in this condition. Not recorded by Enser.
