He gave up editing in 1839 when he was appointed Rouge Croix. Description:
New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1926. First Edition . Green Cloth. Very Good/Good Plus. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Contains 259 pp., 17 b&w illustrations, small few very small holes in front joint, dust jacket is chipped at edges and missing about 3/4" at the top of spine (affecting "The" and "Fi" in Fifth). A fairly obscure title and unusual to find with a dust jacket. Jerome D. Travers, an amateur from the Upper Montclair (N.J.) Country Club, followed in the footsteps of the legendary Francis Ouimet. Travers, already having won the amateur four times by 1913, achieved his long-term ambition in the U.S. Open by playing the last six holes in one under par to beat Tom McNamara by a stroke and capture the 1915 National Championship held at the Baltusrol (N.J.) Golf Club. Many consider this champion one of the game's greatest amateur players with only Bobby Jones owning more U.S. Amateur tiles five to Travers' four. Donovan & Murdoch… Read More

Description:
Boston: F. Trifet. First Edition . Gilt Decorated Green Cloth. Near Fine/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Two volumes - Volume I ( 1867 - 1868, 92 pp. ) and Volume 2 ( 1868 - 1869, 112 pp. ). Volume I has been trimmed before binding and has narrower margins than Volume 2 and results in a slightly smaller volume. All edges are gilt, the covers are bright and the pages are tight and bright with no tears. Topics include American and forwign stamps and although the title suggests numismatics, there are very few references to that field of study in these two volumes. This is a very nice run of this scarce early stamp-collecting journal, which I believe went to four volumes in total.
