A recipe book for Minute Tapioca, with advice for planning better meals, discussion of nutrition for children, general directions, and Tapioca recipes for items such as Tomato Bisque, Baked Cheese, casseroles, stews, creamed salmon, puddings, Chocolate Minute Tapioca, many fruit tapiocas, and finally, "For the Children's Scrap Book, Non-Injurious Paste" listing sugar, lemon and cinnamon etc. ingredients. The cover design reflects the magnified image of the relatively small starch cells of tapioca, as discussed within. CONDITION: Very good.

Taylor celebrating the history of Champlain, New York with the addition of articles from the Champlain Journal by the author and copious footnotes by editor Hugh McLellan. From the colophon: "One hundred and eighty-three copies of this Oration, of which twenty five are on Strachmore Alexandra, were printed by Hugh and Woodberry McLellan, assisted by Norman Cardin, at the Moorsfield Press, Champlain, New York, in May 1936. This is the twenty-sixth production of the Press. Number 29, Hugh McLellan." CONDITION: Front wrapper detached, wrappers faded, toned and worn at extremities, spine partially perished, text sound, clean and lightly toned.

This broadside reprints selections of a pro-suffrage speech from Colorado Representative Edward T. Taylor to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1812. Taylor's remarks, grounded in his own state's experience with women's suffrage (which was passed into law in 1893), attempts to reassure worried listeners about perceived ill consequences of granting women the right to vote. For instance, on the topic of whether "The Bad Women" might sway elections, Taylor states that "the good women ... out-vote the bad women 100 to 1." He also makes the points that equal suffrage has not increased divorce; that husbands and wives do not necessarily vote alike since "women show great independence in voting"; and that corruption in politics has not increased following women's suffrage. Taylor of Colorado making the political, social, and moral argument for women's suffrage based on nearly 20 years of experience with the women voters of his home state. He notes that "An ounce of fact is worth a ton of theory, and one actual result of equal suffrage is worth more than all the theoretical antisuffrage speeches since the dawn of history." A scarce lithograph picturing various scenes in a French production of Charles Perrault's Le Petit Poucet (little thumb), featuring Tom Thumb (the stage name of Charles Sherwood Stratton). The central image shows Tom thumb being transported in a horse-drawn carriage. The eleven hand-colored vignettes show Le Petit Poucet in a variety of situations from the show, such as sitting in a pot, a basket, an ogre's boot, and a wooden shoe; being fed like a baby; boxing; and riding horseback in the guise of Napoleon.Stratton was discovered in 1842 at the age of five by showman P.T. Barnum and given the stage name of General Tom Thumb, becoming a popular attraction at the American Museum in New York. West Chester, Pa., 22 May, 1803. 4to (10.5" x 8"), plain blue wrappers, 11 pp. ink, 12 blank pp. An early manuscript register of students written by a girl attending what would become the longest operating boarding school in the United States, including two sisters apparently absent from the school's official history. Anna Thomas, who was among the first 250 girls to enroll at Westtown School, "which commenced 5th month 6th 1799," records the names and parents' names of her fellow female students "together with their ages, numbers of their bills of admission and places of their former residence." A small pencil x-mark appears by Anna's name (number 210, age 12, daughter of George and Sarah Thomas, from Valley), and by that of her sister, Sarah, who had arrived the year before. Occasional entries record siblings swapping places (and register numbers) with each other ("The latter took the place of the former"). The first nine issues of this continuation in magazine form of Isaiah Thomas' newspaper The Massachusetts Spy, a format to which Thomas resorted as a means of avoiding recently instituted tariffs on paper and taxes on newspaper advertisements. In a broadside he published addressing the matter Thomas observed "The tax on news-paper advertisements has a direct tendency not only to restrain, but to destroy those necessary vehicles of publick information, by taking away their only support...these considerations have induced the printer of the Massachusetts Spy, although with greatest reluctance, to discontinue the publication of that news-paper..." [xxxii], [92] pp., 21 tipped-in color plates, 42 photogravures. One of 492 copies "printed upon Japan paper for private distribution" of this sumptuous volume produced by Tiffany himself. According to the preface, Tiffany compiled this volume at the urging of his children. Most copies were distributed for promotional purposes. Included are chapters on Tiffany's paintings, stained glass, favrile glass, enamels and jewelry, interior decoration, architecture, and landscape architecture. An important volume documenting Tiffany's dazzling and wide-ranging accomplishments in the decorative arts. CONDITION: Near very good, moderate wear, paper slightly worn through at lower left corner of spine, some discoloration to endpapers, occasional touch of foxing, but generally quite clean.

An extraordinary rebuttal by Democrat S. J. Tilden to a series of New York Times articles during the corrupt Tammany Hall, or N. Y. C. "Ring", period of New York politics. Tilden and others were accused by the Times and Republicans of doing nothing to prevent fellow democrats Boss Tweed, Sweeney etc from consolidating their power, and speaking up only when the tide was shifting. Tilden responds with a summary of this period, and lists numerous N. Y. Times comments and articles with his corrections and explanations, often using editorial quotes that undermine the reporters' accusations.
