Minor foxing on a few pages, a few corners are slightly bumped. The maroon cloth may have a little rubbing and shelfwear. Deckled foredge and gilt on top rdge of page block. A nice set of this classic study of English Literature.

All original pages are present, many with small strips of paper overlaying them which give further explanation of what the scene shows (these will only exist in the salesman's sample. Quite a few of the pages have tears (a few with small chips), but the text is all present. Pencil scribbling on floral front endpaper. Binding shows cloth on front board, with leather edging on rear board. At rear of book are blank lined pages for subscriber's name and addresses (there are actually eight names filled in).

Small bookseller's stamp on the front endpaper, and the start of a hinge split at the top of the front hinge. The rear pastedown has a small creased tear at the foredge. Still a tight and clean copy, with the colors and printing on the front boards and spine bright and clear.

A relatively nice copy, with very little wear to the cloth.
