This book has long been attributed to Katherine Anne Porter who vigorously denied ghost writing it. Her claim was that she merely typed the manuscript. the book was actually by her, it would have been her first published work. Old mottled paper sides, vellum spine. 75 pages w 38 engraved plates. First edition. A "descriptio, accompagnee de 36 planches representant le vue generale, les medailles, piedestaux, bas-reliefs et statue dont se compose ce monument." T famous column was erected between 1806 and 1812 under the direction of the architect Jacques Gondouoin. The column's stone core 132 feet high, is entwi in a spiral made from the bronze of 1,200 cannon captured at the Battle of Austerlitz (1805) and decorated with military scenes similar to Trajan's colu in Rome. They are fully illustrated in the Tardieu book. The colossal statu placed at the top of the column was Napoleon as Caesar, also illustrated here.
