(Google Translation reads: "Printed by the Chennai Sathyaveda Sangam" under the sub-title.) Toning to pages, light wear, but a nice copy. Ownership inscription of Mrs. Sarah Lovett. Although the first translations of the Bible into Tamil date to 1715, the middle of the 19th century saw renewed efforts. This small book would have been used for missionary efforts rather than for scriptural studies.

All plates appear to be in fine condition, the box has some tears to sides, ribbon ties intact but with some fraying. A magnificent presentation of some ceramic masterpieces. Paperback, front cover design by "CB" (not credited within), 8-1/2" x 5-5/8", 137 pp. + blank leaves for notes. Some wear and creasing to wraps, a few pencil markings to text, generally clean and solid. Good condition. Generally, a traditional community cookbook with contributor names after recipes, and an emphasis on sweets! On page 72, however, we see "Chinese Cook's Recipe for Pop-Overs" contributed by Sing Lee. Certainly, a racist joke of the era rather than an indication of Chinese-American inclusion in this church, it starts with "You takee him 1 egg, 1 lit cup milk..." and after putting the pop-over in the oven, "Now you mind you business. No likee woman run look at him all time." The Veleda Club of Portland, Oregon, 1974. Soft cover. Very Good. Orange card covers with white plastic comb binding, 8-1/2" tall, 48 pp. + 12 pp. ads. Very nice condition with just some toning to the comb, very light wear. "Japanese-American women formed the active and vibrant Veleda Club in 1949... The club's mission was "education, recreation and culture for the benefit of married women." Sensitive to "relations between Japan and America tradewise," the Veledas vowed to provide service to both " the Caucasian community and the Japanese community." (Alexander Street). This 8th printing has 12 pages of ads, all of which appear to be Asian American-owned businesses. The recipes are the same as the first edition, but of course the advertisements are different.
